(((Renee))) Hope you'll find a way to express your talents, even if in an unexpected direction. I know you're a determined lady...

For me, it's easy to get caught up in day to day things and not include what the neighborhood moms call "me time." They often mean manicures, shopping, aerobics class... I need to get my hands into something (dirt, paint, etc.) or get my brain into gear (writing, research). When I make time to do the creative things I really enjoy, there's more joy in everything else.

"Me time." That's a term that has such variable meanings.

I love my life, as busy as it can be and as unpredictable as it usually is. My long-time friends are always telling me that I need some time for myself, but they don't understand me. I really don't want to go on cruises like they do, or see a movie or join their coffee-klatches. I don't enjoy wasting my time on unimportant, self-centered activities. Thumbs down

Have I changed, or have they? I think it's me, maybe.

Good for you, Jon, good for you!

I'm not much for lunches with the girls or pedicures or any of that kind of 'me' time, but I do enjoy lunch occasionally with a friend or two. Sometimes I find those lunches take me out of myself, make me see that there are others who are dear to my heart but who need a listening ear. They make me aware that there is a world around me, and that their needs are often greater than my own.

So when old friends ask me to meet them for coffee or lunch for no reason except to be together, I don't think of it as an inconvenience or a waste of time.

On the other hand, this kind of event happens only maybe once or twice a month, but I do enjoy it. And it opens my eyes outwardly, instead of being so focused inwardly on myself.

Once or twice a month? Maybe you have more friends than I do - Probably do! I see my old friends maybe a few times a year, and that's enough.

Actually, seeing them, being with them, IS pleasurable. But it's listening about their latest cruises and costly purchases, etc that make me wish I was back in my little cocoon.

Me time...yes, I need it to stay semi sane. I cannot be creative with people and noise surrounding me. For me, that means quiet time at a park with my best friend (Pyxle) or listening to old record albums while I daydream for a while. "Me time" is more restful than a nap and allows my mind to surprise me with sudden ideas and or insights and inspirations. Without it, I become despondent and irritable.
