I try to do what I say I will do. I try not to make promises I can't keep or commit to something unless I am reasonably certain I can keep that commitment...Sometimes, something arises that makes it impossible...in which case, I will apologize and try make it up to the person I let down and hope they will be forgiving.
I'll take it one step farther, Zany. There are people who have a public persona. They act good and on the surface do good things, but inside they are not who they portray themselves to be. Inside they are selfish and don't always have the best of intentions. Some of them are bigots, some are pious only on Sunday. See what I mean?
Be who you claim to be.
Be the person you say you are.
There are a lot of different ways to take this quote, although I don't have any idea who said it first, but I think it's a good one to remember.
Yes, I agree, the words can mean different things.
I have known people who are generous to a fault with their promises, offers of help, and plans but they never follow through on anything so it is all just empty words. This quote reminds me of the phrase "Talk is cheap".
