"A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be." ~Abraham Maslow, American Psychologist
The examples given relate to the Arts, but the quote would apply to any walk of life. Some people seem to be born teachers. Many peole have a gift for comforting, as in nursing. Patience with children would make someone a great nanny. Someone who is a good listener becomes everyone's best friend.
You are what you are, and should make the most of your gifts and talents. I think Mr. Maslow is absolutely right. Follow the lead you are good at and your heart should find peace.
As for me I fall into the Jack of all category, master of none
I'm content with that. I recall at seven years old my teacher said to my mother, "Jon has a butterfly mind", how right she was.
I flit around just like you, Jon, from one type of needlework to another. My hands always need to be busy..... When I must be still, I find myself playing with my fingers
Having said that, I am at peace with myself though the state of the world bothers me. I simply don't understand why humankind pursues the idea that violence and war can solve disputes, they never have and never will.
Peace you say, how can we ever be at peace when our governments are so preoccupied with defence when defence in itself implies threat when the very existence of weapons implies a threat.
Mary, thank you. I knew I had seen and read it before but for the life of me, couldn't remember what the article was called. It is a wonderful event, absolutely with only words, Magga.
