I wonder, is it truly man alone who laughs? I have seen animals that seem to be laughing at each other and at people. Sometimes I think Pyxle laughs at/with me. It is a funny sound she makes and her eyes seem to brighten. There are also chimps and orangutans that seem to laugh.
I'm glad you brought that up! I must agree. Whether it is considered laughing or not, I don't know. But for sure, dogs definitely seem to be so happy at times that their mouths break into severe smiles, which appear to be uncontrollable. Just like laughing!. Great point!
Animals with a sense of humor, frankly I doubt, I do think they try to emulate us which corresponds with their desire to please us. Humor is essentially an emotion, a reaction to circumstance. It is us humans that try to identify human traits in our dogs, cats and try to explain their behavior, perhaps adjusting it to something that we can identify with. At times we find them funny but do they find us funny?
The opposite of laughter is to cry, we do that too.
A dog’s tear ducts drain the liquid back towards the throat and nose area instead of spilling out unless their tear ducts are clogged. They express emotions like joy, grief and fear. They seem to find humor in playing keep away. I do believe they have a sense of humor and it is often expressed in their facial expressions. Even scientists disagree on the subject of what emotions a dog has.
Brenda, please don't think we disagree here, I have a dog that seems to display many human qualities but how many of those are copied from us?
They are intelligent without a doubt. I Love my dog I do and he knows it, I'm his master and his slave.
A guy goes into a pub with his cat, he boasts to his drinking buddies that his cat can talk!
His friends laugh and say if that cat can talk the drinks are on us, one guy chirps up and says, "come on cat talk then". The cat looked up, blinked and said, "Me how"?
