I thought about holding off with this one until next week because in my neighborhood the trees are still mostly green. But I know that once it begins it goes pretty fast. And all too soon it's finished. So I want to start thinking about it now.
I have only one tree that is turning color. It's always the last one to get leaves in the spring and the first one to turn color in the fall. It's the one right outside my back porch, the closest one to the house. I see it first every morning .It's the one the birds perch on while they wait for me to put out their seeds, and the squirrels hang out on while they wait for their peanuts. I know they look for me. When they see me through the window they start chirping, as if calling to the others, "It's time!" The blue jays especially.

And soon there will be piles of leaves everywhere and kids playing in them. Our trees are still mostly green, however last night's 15 degrees will quickly change that!
I parked under an acorn tree at the Y tonight, pulled out my book and enjoyed the sunshine during Joyanna's dance class. I'd been planning to read at a table under the tree but had second thoughts as acorns started thundering down onto the car roof. I looked up -- yep, the squirrels were tearing around the upper branches as if possessed by whirlwinds!
The colors are barely starting here, too, but we've had some dry spells, so the leaves might be down pretty fast this year.
