As a kid, I was probably one of the poorest girls basketball players ever. My dad was the coach too. Let me just say I didn't really understand the game that well in 7th grade.

Years later (many, many years), my dad (old coach) took me to a Wisconsin Badger Women's Basketball game and much to my surprise, I got it! I got the women's basketball fever and have followed them now the last several years. We have season tickets and what started out as mental vacation (which is what I used to call the game time for myself) has turned into many nights of family fun.

My daughters now enjoy playing basketball on rec teams and I try to teach them aspects of the game I never understood as a kid, like what the heck a screen is! And how it works ;) And why you don't have to guard "your person" on offense.
Lol.

The Wisconsin Badger Women have had their ups and downs, but we follow them through it all. It is my hopes that senior guard 5'3'' Rae Lin D'Alie gets to make it to her first NCAA tournament with the rest of her team.

Crossing my fingers for a good rest of the 2009-2010 season.

Follow them here:

Cheers all and Go Badgers!

Another great plus about basketball season is the college season is opposite the gardening season. It gives me a little something to look forward to during the long winter months.

We have gotten to meet members of the team on several occasions and in addition to being great athletes and students, they have been very nice to my daughters. They represent Wisconsin well in all aspects.

Go Badger Women!

Anybody else out there follow women's hoops? Can I be it here?

My all time favorite Badger, Jolene Anderson, went on to play most of one season for the Connecticut Sun and she now plays winters in France. She played that year with another famed northerner, Lindsey Whalen (former Minnesota Golden Gopher). Here is Jolene after becoming the leading scorer of both men and women in Badger Basketball history.

Here she is playing for the Connecticut Sun in 2008 in Chicago. One thing about going pro, is you miss watching them play all of those minutes that they do in college. She was such a stand out in the Big Ten Conference.

I had to laugh as I had never seen a player that looked quite as tough as this woman on her Sun team that year, Tamika Whitmore. Wow. The pros are just a whole different level.

Well I was going to ask about an update on Jolene but you beat me to it! Is Rae Lin D'Alie the new Jolene to watch?

Rae Lin played ball with Jo, but since the Badgers got a defensive minded assistant coach, has really improved her game. At all of 5'3'', this point guard is one my oldest daughter has favored since the first Badger game she attended. It has been fun to watch her improve.

There is a freshman that can play four positions that I have seen some promise. Her name is Taylor Wurtz, she's about 6'1''. She's quite talented, but the next Jolene? Well, Jo was a player all her own and I can't imagine we'll be seeing anything like Jo for a while down the road.

Thanks for visiting me pard. I was getting lonely here ;)
