Extra Notes
When I make this dessert for a church function; I usually double or triple this recipe and put it in my large punch bowl. There is never any left to bring back home but that's OK, cause I made a smaller one for us to eat. It makes me feel good when I come home with empty dishes. It lets me know that the people liked what I bring. I have seen church members go to the dessert table first to dish themselves up some of this dessert so they have it cause they know that once they get done eating all the other food, this dessert is already gone. This dessert is the first to go every time. It does draw a crowd at the church's potlucks.

Shhhh. Here's alittle secret that I will tell you what I have done to this recipe. I pour the cherry pie filling into a bowl and add just; maybe about 1/2 tsp. - 1 tsp. of almond flavoring and mix it up before adding to the layers. Brings out alittle extra flavor. So if you make this dessert, don't tell anyone about the little extra flavoring you added. That is your own little secret.

List of Ingredients
1 chocolate cake mix,or brownie mix
1 (3.9oz)box instant chocolate pudding
1 1/2 - 1 3/4 cup cold milk
1 (21oz) can cherry pie filling
1 (8oz) container of cool whip
1 pkg.Heath candy pieces,optional

Preparation
This dessert is done in layers:

First mix your cake mix or brownie mix according to directions on the box, and bake according to the directions.(I use my own brownie recipe that I have listed in the cookbook).Let the cake cool. Crumble up the cake into pieces and place in bottom of bowl.(just enough of the cake to cover the bottom of the bowl;that's your first layer.

2nd layer: Mix up instant pudding and milk. Layer 1/2 of the pudding mixture on top of the crumbled cake layer;smooth out the pudding on top of cake.

3rd layer:Put on a layer of cool whip.
4th layer: Spoon on a layer of cherry pie filling
Sprinkle some of the Heath candy pieces just around the outside edge.

Repeat the same process; ending up with cool whip on top and the remaining pie filling just in the center of the cool whip and Heath pieces around the outside edge.

Refrigerate at least 8 hours or overnight.
