I received this recipe from someone I worked with 20+ years ago. It's been tweaked a time or two but this is how I make it nowadays.

Always a huge favorite, one of the first desserts to go quickly at family gatherings and Pot Luck's etc.

The original recipe called for either the maraschino cherry juice or amaretto liquor. I've always used the cherry juice.

Note: Some folks don't like toffee (Heath candy bars) so when making for a crowd I will make one with the Heath candy bars and another with regular Hershey's Milk Chocolate bars. You can improvise with any type of candy bar ... Butterfinger's is another favorite! I put the Heath candy bars into a gallon size zip lok bag and use a mallet to break them into pieces. The regular Milk Chocolate bars you can put in a zip lok bag and break easily with your hands.)

List of Ingredients
1 Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix, or 2 pkgs. Brownie Mix (prepare according to pkg.)
1 Cup Maraschino Cherry Juice
6 - 8 Heath Candy Bars, broken/crumbled
4 Boxes Instant Chocolate Fudge Pudding (prepare according to package)
2 Large Containers Cool Whip

Preparation
Bake cake or brownie mixes according to package directions. Remove from oven to cool and (with meat fork or toothpicks) poke holes all over the top. Sprinkle/pour cherry juice over entire top to moisten. When completely cooled cut into squares.

Prepare pudding mixes according to package directions.

LAYER items in Large Punch Bowl or Trifle Bowl as follows:

Cake/Brownie pieces/squares/chunks
Pudding
Candy Bar pieces/chunks
Cool Whip

Cake/Brownie pieces/squares/chunks
Pudding
Candy Bar pieces/chunks
Cool Whip

Decorate top with chocolate shavings or chopped maraschino cherries, or just the cool whip.
