For a couple of decades I have been collecting cookbooks published by Junior Leagues around the U.S. I have cookbooks from San Francisco, The Peninsula, Philadelphia, Boston/New England, Dallas, North Carolina, Hawaii and more. I have found MANY fascinating family recipes in these books.... great recipes. A couple of my favorites are an enchilada recipe from about 1840 Northern California family and a Christmas rum drink made with milk from an English friend recipe via Shanghai (1920s). Also, a pepperoncini cleaned and stuffed with a cream cheese, dill, shallot and smoked salmon cream. Green Rice _ Cooked rice mixed w/ one egg, chopped parsley, garlic, curry powder, sauteed onion and parmesan cheese.... baked. Fun recipes.

I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process.... It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance?

Susie, if you don't already have it, you might enjoy this one: http://www.amazon.com/Mama-Junior-League-Hampton-Roads/dp/09... It's from our local Junior League and the recipes originated from a number of my friends' mothers and grandmothers. It's also fun to read, especially with the "Mama-isms" scattered through it. One of the reviewers called it "too highfalutin'" I couldn't disagree more. I found it delightful.
