I just read a news item about Scotty McCreery, whose first album debuted at #1 on Billboard 200 last week. This is the first time since 2003 that an American Idol winner has reached the #1 spot in the first week. That year (in 2003), two winners accomplished that -- season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson early in the year and season 2 winner Ruben Studdard later that year. Since then, some have debuted in the top 10, and some have reached #1 after a few weeks, but no one has ever debuted at #1 again until Scotty.
In spite of that, Scotty's album still hasn't sold as many albums as Adam Lambert's first album did in its first week.
So, what do we learn from this?
1. American Idol seems to have returned to the hit-making formula of its first two seasons.
2. It is still totally beyond belief that Adam Lambert did not win his season.
I'm so happy for him, and I'm glad the company executives appreciate him.
Here's some more good news from that season. Remember when the contestants went to the premiere of that movie and Paul was approached by one of the stars, who gushed all over him, and he was embarrassed that he had never heard of her? Well, now they're married.

Did anyone watch the Pandora ice skating special Sunday? It featured a bunch of fantastic dancers, including past Olympians and other champs. The music was Mannheim Steamroller and David Archuleta was guest singer. I'd forgotten just what a rich silky voice he has. It was a really good show. Think I might actually look for David's CD.
