Gardeners who have gathered together for the Iowa Roundup, during the eight years it has been in existence, have a new gig.

It’s called  Gardeners of Iowa Gathering.  Past events have taken place in Chariton, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Twin Lakes.  Each year these gatherings have attracted more gardeners than any other roundup of its kind.

This year promises to be no different:  There will be food, fun, friends, new acquaintances, face-to-face meetings of cyberfriends, prizes, speakers, sight-seeing, garden plants galore, and more.  Here is a preview of what’s in store for this year’s gathering:

DATES:  Friday evening, May 13 (dinner), Saturday May 14 (main events), Sunday, May 15 (Breakfast, sight-seeing, and departures)

"An enthusiastic gardener for over 50 years, my first plant was a potted Ponderosa Lemon tree ordered from a comic book ad at age 15. I still have it, and it’s still bearing lemons! My wife and I garden on 3/4 of an acre, both flowers and vegetables. Our garden, named Cottage-in-the-Meadow Gardens, is private and is listed with the Smithsonian Institution in its Archives of American Gardens. It is also on the National Register of Historic Places. We garden organically and no-till. Our vegetable garden contains a seed bank of vegetables brought to this country from Germany in the mid-1800s by my ancestors.
