Image Do Plants Have Feelings?

When I first came upon this issue a number of years ago, I chuckled to myself, deeming it silly to even pursue such a topic. But curiosity eventually got the better of me. I started doing some research.

...but I don't think my plants are quite that advanced.

And it's been over 40 years since the experiment, surely we should know something definitive by now?

I will agree that they communicate, though. They wilt when I forget to water them, they turn yellow when I water too often. And they absolutely grumble when I neglect their occasional feeding.

On the other hand, I don't believe anybody risked testing carnivorous plants, did they? Maybe if they were tested, the results might be more obviously believable.

Teasing you, Larry. Thanks for a 'fun' article. It would be interesting to know the truth, wouldn't it? Or maybe not.

I'm casting my lot with mainstream scientists at this point. But I also keep in mind that we humans once thought the earth was flat and that celestial bodies, including the sun, revolved around it.

I know you were teasing, but wouldn't it be interesting to see what results Backster would get from carnivorous plants? Maybe l should go to his website and see if I can drum up some interest! Smiling

He lost me when he said the plant showed no reaction to his dipping a leaf in warm coffee but it spiked when he just thought about striking a match and burning a stem. If the plant could read his thoughts that fast it should have shown distress when he thought about putting it's leaf into a hot liquid since the plant was obviously in the room with him before that and should have "been attuned" to him already.

It made for a fun read. I like science fiction Smiling

Excellent point, Brenda! Glad you enjoyed the article.

I just found Backster's email address. I'll share your point with him and see what he says, if anything. I know he had a stroke not long ago, but don't know how disabling it was.

You might be right, Dahlia. Lots of folks share your conviction. Perhaps ancient cultures (and some modern ones) are right when they believe that spirits inhabit plants!

The beets of the world have united in a humanitarian effort to desensitize Sharon. Every week a new beet will show up at her house and follow her wherever she goes. The only way to get rid of the beet and to stop more from coming is to eat it. What Sharon doesn't know is that she's seeing only the spirit of the beet. It will materialize once she starts to chew and swallow. If she doesn't eat the beet, it will stay with her. Another beet will show up the next week and so on. Kinda like the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Only when the Beet Wizard appears, will the beets stop coming.
