I started this when Iris were at their peak. What ever flower is blooming usually moves me to paint or photo and save in a folder for winter painting.

Jo Ann,

That is so beautiful, and I know how difficult it is to paint anything that's white.

There's a mood in this one, somber, quiet, maybe melancholy. Sometimes paintings magically produce moods in the one who looking at it, and this one does it very well. It has a dignity as well.

You know how men don't want to be associated with flower paintings or pictures? Well one time I painted a rose in black and white for my dad. He absolutely loved that b/w painting and it remained in his office till the day he died.

My mother never liked it, she said roses should be always in color.

Anyway, that's a beautiful painting.
Thank you for sharing it.

You make me want so much to get back into watercolor, but I seem to be stuck in acrylics. I can get w/c affects with acrylics, but not nearly as soft and beautiful as watercolor.

Do you paint acrilics on WC paper?
Can Thin washes spread like painting wet on wet.?

Yes and yes.

The main difference is that sometimes you can see little granules of the acrylic pigment, where with watercolor the pigment dissolves into the water. But sometimes that effect works well, other times, you want the smoother look.

Make sense?

I have tried watercolor and know how challenging it is...and "painting" white is especially so. Lots of planning needed.

Seeing the lovely paintings here make me want to try again.
