Cupcake was a garden kitty. In the heat of summer days, she slept in the shade of my daylilies, and on cooler days, she sunned herself on top of my brick arches. Cupcake was a stray, and she really belonged to no one, but I belonged to her.
Ahhhhhhhh... Sharon...I loved your story and it brings to mind so many sad losses with my own Darlings over many years.
When we let them take over our hearts we always know that they're not going to be here forever, but the extreme pure joy that they grant us for the time they're with us, somehow makes it all worth it!
Oh Sharon, what a lovely way to immortalize Cupcake. I hope writing the article helped you through your loss. I haven't had a cat for many years, but I still miss our black kitty, Thomas. I know he would have been my garden buddy too.
He was a little devil, just like Tom in the Tom and Jerry cartoon. He was a 20 lb. solid black cat. My daughter used to put sunglasses on him then pat his behind. He would move his head back and forth just like Stevie Wonder does when he's singing. Cheap thrills! She used to dress him up in her doll's clothes too. He didn't mind it at all.
