And my legs suffered all night long, but it was a sweet trip.

It's a Vacuum Day!!! Finally.
Can't believe I'm so excited over a vacuum. Y'all won't be hearing about the critters today, they'll be in hiding if this thing makes much noise!!

Glad I'm not the only one who is in & out, unless I'm shopping for clothes.. but even then I'm usually pretty quick too. Unless I'm in a fish store, then I'm there for EVER!! *Blush* *Blush*

Crisp this morning. Gone up to 35degs this morning, was a bit too chilly to take the garbage down to the end of the driveway w/o shoes on (that concrete was COLD!!). A little tired as we got a new kitten last night. Can't replace Raiden in my heart, but can always rescue someone. Don't have a name yet, sometimes I know the name immediately, sometimes it takes days. This one might be a days' one to figure out what his name is. But Nike is NOT happy at ALL about this! OMG, DEFINITELY not happy.. growl growl growl growl growl.. everyone else is like Meh! but not dramaqueen Nike! I'll take some pics tonight.

Downloaded the pix off my camera, here's a few from the zoo. Took almost 600 pictures.. got some that came out nice, but some that, well, didn't. LOL.. wrong lens.

Congrats on your new vac Sharon. I dislike shopping too, mostly send Serge for the groceries, especially during the winter, got him trained pretty good to stick to the list. Hilarious!

Toni, very nice zoo photos. Thumbs up

Toni I have heard of serval cats before, but never seen one. The Toledo zoo has the Lesser (red) panda.

Not big on shopping, but can get lost in bookstores, especially the children's section.

The red pandas, baby elephant, maned wolves, & clouded leopards were new to the zoo. The others.. well, that tiger is actually a grown-up cub that the Mama had a few years ago. Amazing how fast they grow!

Mama's chillin' out in the back, the cub's up front. S/He was playing with a 55gal barrel that got demolished.

Pix of the jaguar, foosa, most of the aquariums, and lots of the birds just didn't come out. I refuse to go to the primate area.

But, I did get a picture of my Chaos! it's a decent picture where you can actually see his eyes for once! You can see the lack of black for the pupil..

It's hard to see, but the very tippy tips of his ears are black. :( He got burned by sunbathing too much. White cats can develop skin cancer & get sunburned much more readily than other colors of kitties, and albinos are the worst because of the complete lack of pigment. So I have to watch to make sure that they don't sit in the sunbeam too much. Which sucks for them. It's easy to spot the difference when they're kittens because albinos have really freaky purply eyes, versus blue eyes on a blue-eyed kitten/cat. Here's a picture of Vasilla for comparison so you can see the eye difference.

Cold here too. Hardly got up to 40. Spent the afternoon chasing laptops. I'm slated to give a reading and slide show at the Vinton Library tomorrow afternoon. Yesterday, my laptop decided it didn't like the projector and refused to recognize it. Conferred with my computer guru. He said he needed to have me take it to him, but he wouldn't be able to get to it until Saturday. Called the local library. No laptops. Called the Vinton Library. No laptops. It was only then that I realized that Robin has a brand new laptop.

Drove to Goodwill in Cedar Rapids where Robin works and asked her if I could borrow her laptop. Absolutely, she said. Off across town to Robin's house. Couldn't get on the Internet to download PowerPoint Reader. Wanted me to enter a user name and password. Robin hadn't mentioned those and she has no land line and I had no cellphone. Off across town again to confer with Robin. She seemed surprised to learn that I couldn't get on the Internet without signing in. She gave me her best guesses as to what the user name and password might be.

Back across town to Robin's house. None of the names and passwords that Robin gave me worked. I started clicking on stuff randomly and— presto—I was suddenly online. Have no clue what I had clicked on. Piece of cake after that. Downloaded the software, headed for home, loaded my PowerPoint presentation onto Robin's laptop and...success! My slides popped up on the projector screen. Whew! Emailed the Vinton librarian that I had a laptop that worked.

Due to all the back and forth, Laila and Oliver did not get their usual afternoon walk. When I finally took them outside they headed directly to their favorite pee spots. And they peed, and they peed, and they peed...
Was relieved to know that they hadn't peed in the house. Thumbs up

Toni, the zoo pictures are so cool! I had no idea that any cat can get sunburned.

What an adventure, Larry. Glad everything got working okay for your presentation. Hope it goes well!

Sharon, sounds like you had a full shopping day. Glad you got a vacuum and hope it is quiet for the animals sake Smiling

I can shop all day just about anywhere. But bookstores (libraries, too) and garden centers are my favorite.

Here are some photos of Skye's latest creations. The painting was upside down in the first one, so I took another to show the right way. The green painting is from a photo of a small waterfall over mossy boulders with some reflection, taken in Hawaii. I think he is tending to do better with imaginative creations as opposed to attempting to copy from a photo. The flower is a New England aster I am pretty sure that is blooming for us right now.
Sharon, your painting philosophy sounds similar to Japanese style gardening/landscaping. If I remember it correctly, the Japanese are known for winding paths through their gardens that block part of the view of what is to come. That way, you are drawn into the gardenscape to discover what is around the next bend in the path. It can be very effective, as I know from hiking it can be tough to turn around when you wonder what is ahead and just out of sight! Allowing the viewer to imagine what is hiding just behind a tree or around a bend is a very effective method to draw the viewer in. I can indeed imagine some creatures of the woods staying just out of view!
Fun trip to the zoo it looks like, Toni.
Shopping: I prefer to do most of it online, and neither Skye nor I seem to have much enthusiasm for extended store visits. He is especially not fond of auctions, flea markets, thrift stores and similar, as his Mom wants to drag us into everyone of those she sees. And when she does go into one, she ends up with more than she can resell or get rid of, so the piles continue to mount ever higher! Notice the fish in the background of the photo with Skye - he also enjoys the aquarium store visits. And occasionally the pet store.

So glad it all worked out, Larry.
Amazing dogs. I always celebrate with Sunshine, but she does that too. However, she heard a ghost in the night this morning and refused to step off the deck. I am still waiting . . . it's been since midnight last night. Sheesh.

The ghost in the night is a door to a neighbor's storage shed that's swinging in the breeze. It's on the other side of their house and she can't see it but I've heard it before so I know what it is. No way is she going out there with that door banging. I'm watching her very carefully but she hasn't had an accident since the first week she came here, so I don't know how long this will last. Afraid to turn the vac on, it might startle her.

Whatta start to a really gorgeous day.

Finally. Sunshine went for her morning walk. Whew. I think we both feel much better now.

Nice paintings, Skye!

Lance, you'll find that I don't plan my paintings to do specific things. I paint from my inside, not so much what I see on the outside, so mostly I paint feelings, not things. And I have no clue what a viewer will see in my paintings, that always depends on the viewer. If you see critters lurking around every corner, then that's your insight. Me . . . well I mostly paint feelings, with an effort to paint them in different ways. Like the trees. That's mostly a feeling leftover from wandering around in the mountains, definitely not scary nor lurking . . . also from the tunnel that was created by the burning bushes behind my house. If you enlarge you might be able to see what I see here:
Thumb of 2013-11-14/Sharon/658ead

But if Skye continues to paint, then painting from the inside will be something he learns to do, because it isn't something anyone can teach him. I used to turn the lights out in my classroom and play music and have the students write the names of colors they could hear within the music. Then they would paint something from that list of colors.

And sometimes I turned the lights out and told a scary story, then had them to write the colors they felt when they were listening. So it's that kind of thing, turning your feelings into colors and the colors into shapes. Hard to explain, but it isn't something that is teachable with words.

It's like Franz Marc and his blue horses, beautiful paintings of his feelings, not so much what he saw but what he felt:

Larry - Wow, talk about a mess! But at least you got it going before it was too late, and that's really what matters. And your pups are SUCH good babies.. Wolfgang used to do that.. stand there for EVER tinkling.. this one time we'd gone to this nursery, that nursery, and the other nursery and he finally decided he had to go, so took him outside to a grassy hillock near the parking lot so that it was no where near where people would walk & accidentally step into it.. and there he went. And went. And went & went & went. Swore that he must have gone about a gallon of tinkle! Yikes! BOY was he much happier afterwards, literally bouncing and jumping around like the big dork he was. Waffles is really good about going when I tell her she needs to go as far as tinkle, potty's a different situation. Sebastian is also very good, but he's getting a little older & he's not able to hold it as long, poor thing. So I make sure that he doesn't have to hold it as long as he used to when he was a pup/younger dog. And I *NEVER* scold him if he has an accident.. never never never. Getting kind of worried about him 'cuz he's been vomiting a bit too. Just took him to the vets, bloodwork all came back just fine, said that it could have been nerves. He's Always been a bit high-strung, so we're watching him for that.

Tried to get pictures of the new kitten this morning, but every single one of them was blurry. Think my phone's lens was filthy.. gonna get pix tonight w/the real camera.

It's so beautiful right now.. almost 50 degs and SUNNY, which makes it feel much much warmer. Wish I could enjoy it.. stuck inside all day. And Sunday's supposed to be really wacky, hmm... at least last night they were predicting wacky weather. Now they're not.. only slightly colder (40 for the high).. they were predicting mid 50s, then an ice storm... meteorologists!! Gotta love 'em.

Great picture, Toni (both wild and domestic cats).

Glad all worked out well, Larry.

Congratulations to Skye, Lance.

Interesting comments on paintings, Sharon.
I feel that relying on feelings to communicate is a problem, but there you go.
There's presumably a lot of vacant territory between the feelings of the artist and the feelings of the persons who view their work.
