40° John is chopping ice near where he parks the car. After much melting it pulled the car next to the ice on the passenger side yesterday so it was hard to get in & out. Plenty of room on the driver's side. help, help! |

All your ice makes me realize I couldn't possibly live alone in a place where snow and ice last so long. I gripe and grumble but even the ice from our ice storm a few years ago only lasted about 4 or 5 days. The outages and fallen trees and limbs lasted much longer, but not the ice. Our temps go up and down, up and down so quickly it's hard to anticipate how many layers to wear. |

33 degs right now, gonna hit nearly 50 today. I've got spring fever pretty badly, but the ground's a frozen ice cube, so can't do any digging. Spent all day yesterday working at a fish store, it was great, but boy was my back & leg in a bad way last night. Oh well, the things we do to ourselves, no? Sharon - I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I hope that the memories of the good times way outweigh the bad ones. Wearing my new black & white boots today. I need to get some magnesium. I'm not doing too well without it. I'm naturally magnesium deficient and can't really eat enough that occurs naturally in foods. I'd have to eat like 2lbs of cashews or almonds to get what I need (about 1200-1500mg/daily, which is a ridiculous amount). And I've found that solid pills don't really release the magnesium enough, so I have to find the liquidgels or the powder, but the powder is nasty tasting (like drinking ground up chalk). So gotta go to the store & see if I can find the liquidgels then head to work. Everyone have a great day! Never be afraid of a scar. This is a rainy day for ducks and a muddy day for pigs, neither of which I am. Gloom and muck. My kitchen drain is leaking, no crack but the pipes are loose from the drain. I am going to have to empty out that cabinet, dry the entire thing out and tighten up the connectors. I absolute hate stuff like this, but it's such a minor thing, I already know there are no cracks, just a loose connection, too minor to call somebody and pay for a 30 second service call. If y'all don't hear from me for awhile, just know I'm stuck in that leaked upon cabinet with all those pipes. |

Toni, I did some reading about magnesium, found that the chelate type is readily absorbed, the other (what was it?) almost not at all. In addition, you need calcium with it because one helps your muscles contract, the other helps them relax. Mine are hard pills, 300 mg, and also have vitamin D-3. Power was off a while ago, no storm, no reason that we can tell, but it happens often, usually in the daytime when maybe the crews are working on the lines. No warning of course..... or explanation. They have replaced a lot of lines since we moved here, it used to happen several times a month, so it's definitely better. We got one of those brick things with a battery to plug the computer into, so it beeps and gives me about 20 minutes to finish what I am doing and shut down the computer. If I am outside or something, with the computer in sleep mode, it will beep for a length of time and then shut the computer down. Lucy, I think I would have asked him to move the car. Pretty, bright sunny day here, after fog and snow/rain/snow/rain all day yesterday. Everything is crunchy this morning. Sun turned the snowy mountain tops to silver for a while just after the sun came up. Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. Mary - Yea, I know about the different types of magnesium & what works & what doesn't. Went through all that with my doctor & a dietician a few years ago. I usually use a powdered form as the chelated just really doesn't work for me (I don't digest it, it just flushes straight through). So I'm stuck with the citrate variety. Took a mega dose about 2 hours ago and I can already feel the difference in my fingers. I also suffer from, what I believe, to be Erythromelalgia, which is also treated with magnesium. If I take my magnesium, life's grand. No migraines, no twitchies, no burning/swollen hands/feet. If I don't, then life's not so grand. Saturday night spent about an hour with what it kinda looked like an epileptic seizure in my legs. Twitch twitch twitch, no control. They just jerk & move on their own accord. This morning my hands were pretty swollen and I felt just yucky. But 1500mg Mg and my hands' swelling has gone down considerably and my body feels much better. Of course, it could all be a placebo effect. In any case, don't really care. Looking into Zerona for a boost. Debating, thinking... don't know if I want to go for it or not. Or if I can afford it. :) No storms here on my side of the funny farm. We had some bad winds in the mountains/foothills (50-80+ mph), but just breezy on my side of the funny farm. Snow's melting quite nicely, so hoping that will give a major boost to my plants for the spring. Got spring fever bad!! Was looking at my roses on Saturday when I was outside taking down Christmas lights.. I'm gonna have to trim most of them down to the dirt. Bleh. But it looks like my lilacs will be all be in bloom this year! And so will my forsythia, provided we don't get another major killing freeze like we did last year. It sucked. :( Took this picture on Friday. Love the cloud rainbows.. but wish we had real rainbows from rain! ![]() Never be afraid of a scar. If you stare intently at that cloud photo, Toni, looks like the clouds are moving off to the right. What's Zerona? |
Sharon - You know, that's super odd 'cuz the clouds DO look like they're moving to the right, but in this pic, I'm driving almost pure South and the clouds almost 100% always move from right to left (west to east). If the clouds are blowing TO the west (backwards), hunker down 'cuz it's gonna be a bad bad bad storm. The massive floodings we had last Sept was from one of those type systems that came from the north, then got stuck & blew to the west, hammering the mountains badly. Zerona = non-invasive cold laser liposuction. I'm gonna try the diet/exercise thing for a few months before I take that step, though. Never be afraid of a scar. Couple of warmer days here. Currently 43°F: some melting, but there's ice under the snow with snow under that ice. Been chipping away ourselves. Interesting picture, Toni. I see colour above the road. |

Wilma and I spent the afternoon in Cedar Rapids doing something that will eventually be fun and exciting. We signed up for a 10-day cruise in the Caribbean! ![]() Our January thaw is still in progress but it sounds like there's more snow on the way with lots of blowing. Drifting has not been a problem in the past few weeks because we've had ice on top of the snow. Looks like that's about to change. ![]() Cottage-in-the-Meadow Gardens: Come on in and take the tour! Larry, great idea, that will be a wonderful surprise birthday for Robin. ![]() |

Wow! What a surprise for Robin! I have never received any gift close to that for a birthday, anniversary or Mother's day gift. Good for you, Robin. Oma |

Rain tomorrow, dry on Wed., rain on thurs & Sat. Sort of like Jam yesterday & jam tomorrow, but never jam today. The last bit of driveway ice is going. It is great to have the driveway plowed, but it does turn into the ice. However at 83 (84 in March) does doesn't like shoveling 80 ft of driveway. On our last suet cake. there was a nuthatch on one side & a downy woodpecker on the other side this afternoon. |

I think I saw a woodpecker 2 days ago.. not sure if it is, it was very far away (neighbor's cottonwood in their back yard, so we're talking about 200-400 yards away). Pretty solid brownish grey in color with a very long bill. Or maybe it's a Northern Flicker. I don't know, too far away. I'd like to see it up close.. need to get some suet out for the birdies. So glad you got the trip scheduled, Larry, Robin will love it!! She will be so surprised. I can't wait to see pictures, even if it is 10 months away. I worked on the leaky drain ALL AFTERNOON. I think it might be fixed but I also think it needs to be tightened more by someone who is stronger than I am. I dunno, but so far so good. Doctor's appointment tomorrow, changed till 1:30. Just routine, but I really don't like doctor visits. No doubt I'll be grumbly in the morning. Lucy, sure hope that ice is gone now. Toni, please think twice before you consider Zerona. Charlie, I believe you had a heat wave! |
Sharon, I won't blame you if you are grumbly in the morning, I detest going to the doctor, or getting any kind of medical test done...ugh!!! ![]() Maybe Ashley could tighten that drain connection for you next time she is home if you can wait that long. |
Hope your doctor's appointment goes well, Sharon. Regarding the drain pipe, if it still leaks and you have some E6000 around, try fixing the leak with that. You'd have to make sure that the surface is dry before you apply it. Cottage-in-the-Meadow Gardens: Come on in and take the tour! Check out the photos! Thanks, good advice from both of you. The doctor thing . . . exactly, Margaret. I don't expect anything other than the usual, but I've been on the low end of the weight spectrum and my doc had strongly suggested we set a goal for this month. I am afraid I'm not there yet. Truth is, since I'm rarely if ever sick except last year when I had shingles, I feel that we should just leave well enough alone. Why fix something if it isn't broken? Wonder how well that will go over with Dear Doctor? |

Good Morning! Larry, I thought the same as Sharon - can't wait for pictures ![]() ![]() I don't like dr appts either Sharon - ugh - and I'm with you, if you're healthy and feeling well...... 44 with a high of 55 today and rain. NATIONAL GARDENING ASSOCIATION Purslane & Portulaca ~ Garden Art |

I don't have an appointment until Feb. Great to have one month clear. I have a breathing test then. |
