Thank you all for those kind comments. I just looked at Oliver's photo again. Looks like he's got an Einstein hairdo. ![]() Cottage-in-the-Meadow Gardens: Come on in and take the tour! Beautiful gate Larry and I agree. I like the wood just the way it is. You are are an excellent carpenter ![]() ![]() We're cooler today and will be for quite awhile. Not cold, but very cool and that's fine with me. Finger is fine - I think. I washed it, smeared some antibiotic salve on it, water proof bandage and it's not too sore. We once had a cocker puppy who was a fish watcher. He used o come rushing in the house & plant himself in front of the tank. Lake Erie college, Painesville, OH. they get all the lake effect snow & her home does not. |

I agree, Oliver is adorable--can't stay mad at a face like that for too long! The gate looks very sturdy. And Oliver looks like he's saying, "I can't believe you did this to me!". My Lhasa used to bark at my guppies. I miss that cute, silly, ornery little dog. |

I have several daffodils in bud and one in BLOOM ![]() NATIONAL GARDENING ASSOCIATION Purslane & Portulaca ~ Garden Art |

Wow! A daffodil in bloom already! A few of mine are just coming up through the mulch. A few tulips, too, but it will be a looooong time before anything blooms. I saw garlic a few days ago. Checked for rhubarb this morning, just looking, not poking around in the mulch. I'm sure it will be showing big red leaf buds in the next few days. Yesterday we saw the whole herd of about 150 antelope (Pronghorns, not true antelope) on our way home from town. Well, no, of course I didn't have my camera, but we weren't really close enough for a picture anyhow. They winter at a much lower elevation along the Snake River boundary between Oregon and Idaho. We will be seeing them frequently now until about late October. ![]() Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. Some of my agastaches are showing green leaves, but everything's still dead for the most part. Still have another 3-4 weeks of waiting for spring here at least... Mary - We sometimes see antelope outside of town between town & I25. Depends on which road I take. Sad thing is that area is now being developed for more houses. We've got a housing crunch going on here in the Denver metro.. not enough houses, not enough apartments. Vacancy rates are the lowest they've been in over 10 years. Houses don't sit on the market long here and these are being sold about as fast as they're being built. Pretty sad, IMO. I'd rather have the antelope. Or, as I call them, candy-lopes. Never be afraid of a scar. It just means that you were stronger than something that tried to hurt you. Daffodils, Vic! You really know how to hurt a guy! ![]() Loved the pronghorn photo, Mary. All we see around here are white-tailed deer. I mentioned some time ago that I was working on a daylily article. It's up on ATP tonight: http://allthingsplants.com/ideas/view/LarryR/1772/Larrys-Obs... Aha! I didn't make the connection, Larry! I read your posts about Amana before and when you mentioned it here I was going to say, hey, there's a guy on ATP that does tours...duh!!! And awesome article! I am going to have to go back and read it again but I certainly enjoyed the eye candy! I just don't want to get hooked! ![]() ![]() |

So sorry I've been MIA for awhile, but glad you all just kept right on going without me. No reason except maybe I've just had a bad case of winter blahs. I should have forced some bulbs or something and I would have if I'd known this winter was going to last forever. We've had some gorgeous sunshine and deep blue skies even though the weather has been mostly below freezing. Another winter storm is possible on Sunday. I can't wait. Ugh. Today I think I will try the driving thing again because I am so out of paint and can't finish the painting I"ve been working on. I can drive around here in my tiny town but don't have a lot of control of the driving foot yet, and WM is about 18 miles away. I think I'll be fine but I never know when that foot is going to go on vacation. Great article, Larry! And great blooms, Vic!! Things are popping up around here but probably not for long with this cold spell sweeping down from the north. I keep telling myself this too shall pass. |

Oh Sharon, I can relate, as i'm sure most of us can. For me, I got a bad cold and it went into a pity party. I so wanted to start planting the garden this weekend but that's not going to happen. What a disappointment. If we get cold with no snow, when it starts to warm again the flowers should be popping. I noticed buds on the lilacs and a couple of blossoms on the forsythia. I did have lenten rose, hyacinth, crocus and even a few daffodils but the cold seems to have nipped them a bit. I am going to the community theatre with a friend tonight so maybe that will help! |
|
|||
I love community theater! You'll have such a good time. And I do hope you are over your cold quickly. I know about the pity parties, that's one reason I thought it would be a good idea if I kept quiet for a few days. I never claimed to be little Suzy Sunshine at the best times so you can imagine how sickening it would be if I had my own little pity party. Be well and have fun tonight! |
|
|||
Thanks! My cold is much better too. I hate getting sick or getting hurt, I don't have time for it! I love community theatre too! The friend I am going with needs a night out too. We're going to try and do it on a regular basis, at least get out and do something. She is one of the first people I met after I moved down here and we have become great friends. Oh, you are so Susie sunshine, with your own four legged Sunshine. Pets have a way of knowing when to just be nearby. Hope your funk is over too. You know, I'm probably only about three hours away and for me, that's a day trip! ![]() |

Nope, aren't you close to Marietta? If you are where I think you are then you might be that close to the southeastern KY line, but I'm hours west of that, so most likely about 400 miles from you. We could probably make that in 3 hours, but somebody would have to come bail us out. When my daughter lived in Florida, I timed it like this: 2 hours to Nashville 2 more hours to Chattanooga 2 more hours to Atlanta. 2 more hours to get out of Georgia ..... then the rest of the trip in Florida. That was such a long trip and I've driven it a few times alone. I wouldn't drive it alone anymore though. Oh boy, I sure wish you were only 3 hours away, that would be such a treat. I live near Muddymitts, but she's about the closest one. |

Glad you're feeling better Sharon and hope the shopping trip goes well. Please check in when you're home. Sharon is every bit of 8 hours if not 9 or 10 and I'm in western NC. I would have to drive all the way to western TN before I headed north into KY. Hank actually mowed yesterday ![]() Close to 70 by Sunday and then we cool off again. Very windy out there today. Well, it'd be about a 14hour drive for me to Sharon's place.. I70 to Mt. Vernon MO then south to Sharon. I *could* do that in a day.. worst I've ever done was 999.8 miles in about 16 hours (got on the road at 8am, got home at midnight, drove from Parker CO to Socorro NM, then right back home) and this is about 1024miles. But I'd be beat TBH. When I helped my friend move to DFW, that was a long long drive because that stupid moving truck had a speed inhibitor, so I couldn't get above 70mph. Yuck! Took way too long because of that. My van, however, doesn't have a speed inhibitor. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We have a fun thread in the Sandbox on ATP going on right now called the Grumpy Thread. I enjoy reading the Grumpy thread, some of them make me laugh. Yep about the distance Vic, KY is a wide state and I'm at the far western end of it. Takes me almost 3 hours to get over to I 65, another hour to get to I 75, so mostly I drive south east to Nashville and go across on I 40 till I hit 65, but sometimes I think it would be much faster if I just jumped over into MO and go almost straight down, then across. I dunno. Can't remember the interstate from there. I feel like I'm way out at the other end of nowhere sometimes. |

On our final day in OH before we moved here, one of our cats decided to bolt and hide. Neighbor said go, I'll call you when we catch her because Misty cat hung out at her house a lot too. Sure enough, 48 hours later, neighbor called and I left here at 6 am, drove 8 hours to OH, got Misty, visited a few minutes, turned right around and drove another 8 hours home. Hank was livid. He told me if I was a semi truck driver, I would be fired as they are not allowed to drive that many hours. It was stupid but I had boxes to unpack, etc. I was a few years younger then too ![]() ![]() NATIONAL GARDENING ASSOCIATION Purslane & Portulaca ~ Garden Art |
