Oh Toni, I remember driving like that but not anymore!
Yep, it would be more like 6 hrs Sharon cause I can make it to Chattanooga in two. We're south of Atlanta off 85 going into AL. Actually, I'm a lot closer to Ella. I know there are a few others fromATP in the area but not quite sure who. Greene is in Savanna. So okay, a LONG day trip.
I remember driving straight through to northern MI (Traverse City area) when my kids were young. I wouldn't be able to do that now. It's hard enough with two driving and an over night at my daughters in the Detroit area.
I know lots of people have been coming down with colds. This stinkin weather!
Hey Vic, maybe you could send Hank down here to mow the rye for me so it can be tilled and I can get started? other than the winter covers, we don't have anything to mow. Oh, the liriope maybe!
Larry, I have an order in a Old house Gardens and one variety of glad I ordered is out so I may be substituting a daylily, Theron. Most of what I have are NOIDS.
Arlene, my wife, daughter, and I lived in Huntsville, AL for six years. We often drove straight through to Iowa and then straight through back to Alabama. Took us bit more than 9 hours. We thought we were pushing it, but that doesn't even come close to Toni and you!
Scott Kunst at Old House Gardens and I are good friends. We've visited back and forth in each other's homes. His bulbs and tubers are tops and guaranteed to be authentic varieties. He's offering a really nice daylily sampler this spring.
More fun with snow (and dirty cars):

That's cool, Larry! I am originally from just south of Ann Arbor and my daughter went to school, worked and lived in AA area for years before moving to the suburbs of Detroit (love!) She turned me on to OHG. I know they have top quality stuff there and I am excited to get my order!
I'm not keen on doing those long drives anymore, especially by myself, but I could if necessary. I don't know, I've always been, if there's somewhere I want to go I just get in the car and go. We were crazy and went to northern MI for Christmas cause that's the only time I didn't have to babysit and it was not a great year to go with all the snow. We only had to stay one extra day because of snow though.
Great snow pictures! The online weather channel is predicting 9 to 14 inches of snow for my area Saturday night into Sunday. I may have to try some of those!
My son was in the army for several years and stationed in Fort Campbell, KY. We would spend about 8 hours driving there when we visited. We took our time and tried really hard to avoid St. Louis rush hour when ever we could. I figure I could reach Sharon's area in six hours or so, but I'm coming from the opposite direction from most of the rest of you! She might be the perfect central location for a gathering!
I hope all of you east of Kansas City weathers this next round of weather well. It looks like we're in for another week of cold nasty weather, and then it might just turn warmer! I'm hoping!
Jill, Larry could drop down and pick you up on his way. I am very very close to the Missouri line down at that western tip of KY. Also I'm just about an hour from Ft Campbell. I feel a gathering taking shape.
I would have done the same thing, VIc, if it had been my cat. Absolutely.
I've driven to Naples Florida non stop and alone but only one time. I think it took 17 hours. I was taking some stuff to Ashley who was studying at NOVA there and she needed some of her old HS reference books. Bob was working and I was itching for a short break on the beach and seems to me it was in early June so my school was out. After it was over, I started thinking about it and the thoughts of what could have happened scared me, but at the time it didn't bother me a bit.
I drive from here all the way to SE KY alone even now, takes me about 7 hours and the distance across the state is about 500 miles. I always leave early enough so that Im not driving when it's dark. But I know KY like the back of my hand so it's easy for me. And truth is, I love to drive. Just not so much at night now.
Sunshine's cold nose is beneath my typing arm nudging it up, her way of telling me she needs a potty break right now.
If it's 7 hours to SE Kentucky for you, then it would take 11 hours for me to get to you. It's 3 hours to Knoxville and another hour to Kentucky. Although from here, I was stay on 40 all the way through TN and then go north but it would still be a hike, huh?
Yep, it takes me close to 5 hours to get to Cincinnati, but I haven't been there in years from here. Much closer to Cinc'y when I lived in the mountains than from this end of the state. What's the state park there, Renee'? Near Covington?? When I had family in Ohio, we'd meet them at that park sometimes. Years and years ago.
Larry, thanks for the wonderful daylily article. I was also glad to find out about the Old House Gardens.
I subscribed to their newsletter tonight. I enjoyed visiting their website.
