Yep, goetta is huge in Cincy. It's the only place you can go into a restaurant and order goetta and they actually know what you're talking about. And yes, in the groceries too.

Ack on that snow!

Oh Larry, I don't think I could get past the head parts.

JB, thank you so much. I do eat dairy, eat lots of cheese in particular and I do fix fruit smoothies quite often. I eat tons of fruit and lots of vegetables. But my portions are not very big. I eat to live, I don't live to eat. The only thing I don't eat is beef and pork and sometimes I'll eat chicken but not often. I do eat seafood, mostly shelled fish. So it isn't what I don't eat, it's that I don't eat large portions. I'm always in a hurry to do the next thing, whatever the next thing is. I only eat one meal in the morning and I eat a meal in the evening. I see no point in stopping what I'm doing to grab much of anything in the middle of the day except maybe a piece of fruit. So I do keep lots of fruit on hand. I don't go to those 'all you can eat' food places, the buffets, because I don't eat enough to justify it. A green salad piled high is just fine for dinner. So you see, I don't eat large portions. And what I do eat, I burn off quickly. I don't sit still. I never watch a movie. At night I might sit and write for a couple of hours but even while writing, I will get up and do something else between paragraphs. Same while painting, I don't sit still. You read Larry's afternoon, well, mine is much like that. I'm always 'doing', moving, in action. But to tell you the truth, I've never worried about it, never.

I'm only mentioning it now, right here in the middle of old age, because the doctors keep telling me I need a cushion in case of some kind of illness. But I haven't really lost any weight, maybe a pound or two here and there, then the next week or so I'll gain it back. All my life I've weighed 100 - 112 and that's the way it is. So I'm not going to talk about it anymore, it is what it is. And I'm not going to worry about those blasted 3 pounds.

I am going to talk about Toni. Toni, keep going to the gym or close the door at home to keep the cats out and do the elliptical thing. Don't let the cats be your excuses. Don't let the teenagers be your excuses. It might take 6 months or a year for you to get to a weight that you are happy with, but that's only a short time in the great scheme of things. Do whatever it takes. Don't sit down for 3 hours in a movie. Or a concert. Don't sit down and watch TV. Don't. You gotta move and you gotta keep moving because if you don't, at the rate you are going by the time you are as old as I am you won't be able to move. So do it now, make a firm decision and stick with it. I'm telling you, if you don't do it now, you will not even make it to my age.

I am so sorry if what I say makes you angry, but the truth is the truth and I care. If it were Vic, I'd be saying the same thing. Or Larry or Charlie . . . But you've got years of a great big beautiful life right there in front of you and if you don't take care of yourself now, you won't live to enjoy it. I don't want you to years from now look back and have regrets over what you should or shouldn't have done.

Your roses, your blooming shrubs, the mountains you love to climb, the trips you enjoy taking, you have a lot to offer, Toni, and you have a lot to look forward to. But you will be unable to enjoy or to offer if you don't take care of yourself now.

Sorry. I'm not your mother and I have no right to say all this except I can claim the friendship right and that I do. The end of that and I promise I won't say it again.

I know what head cheese is. It was a delicacy in the mountains . . . every single time a hog was butchered. I didn't eat it then either. Smiling I do however nibble daylily buds as I wander through my garden.

Too many cats!!
Head Cheese = BLEH!! That & BloodTongue. Yucko. Yes, I know what both are. Yes, I've tried both. Yes, I find both to be quite gross. Lolll!! But it's probably because I don't care for salty foods & I know that both are pretty salty. Yuck. Not for me thank you. My father loves the stuff though. Icky icky!

Believe it or not, on my days off or when I get home from work, I'm almost as active as Larry is!! I don't sit down when I'm at home. I watch less than an hour of tv and if the weathers good I'm outside. But my big thing is Monday through (well, now Thursday) Friday from morning til night I'm tied to a phone at my desk. And for the longest time I ate bad food. All my fault. Loll!! But I'm working on it!! Promise!! I don't want to be one of those people who have to buy 2 plane tickets.

I worked in a deli and had to sell head cheese, and it grossed me out to look at it, much less touch it. I know, it probably tastes good, but I wouldn't be able to get it close enough to my mouth to find out. Blinking Hilarious!

Speaking of food, Wilma and I just got back from PHAT Daddy's, our favorite local restaurant. We both had ribs with raspberry barbeque sauce. May sound strange, but boy does it taste yummy! We chose tonight to eat there because 15% of our bill goes to the local animal shelter. Huge crowd. Servers flying from kitchen to table and back again. Glad to see so many people supporting such a great cause. Thumbs up

Good Morning!

27 this morning with a high of 50

Everything Sharon said Toni - and we're here if you need us Group hug Group hug

Larry - WONDERFUL! I read a story online yesterday about a dog in NYC. Owner was leaving the dog park and when she went to put the leash on as they left, the dog ran. She chased him, lost him, put posters everywhere, called all the animal shelters and went to them twice a day. Got lots of calls but one finally sounded like her dog. Turns out, during the polar vortex, someone found her dog under a bridge and brought the dog to their home so it wouldn't freeze to death. She offered a reward but the people said no, they just wanted to visit the dog once in awhile Lovey dubby Lovey dubby LOVE stories like that Thumbs up

Morning everybody!!!!!!!!!!! If your not awake, you should be. Been up since 4 this morning, first time at and had coffee and toast. Sun is shining for the moment. Bitter cold outside. Waiting for the frost to melt and it to get to mid 30's than I will go out and take a walk around and see what is happening in the outside world.

Boy, skip one day and I got behind half dozen pages. That ok, caught up while I finished my 7 th cup of coffee in the past 4 hours.

Sharon... I do know what it is like to not eat, when your just not hungry or you feel full. Have you had your thyroid checked lately? As we get older and things start changing and going south, out and angles we would rather not see, our hormones change and so does our thyroids.

When I was younger. I started losing weight at an enormous rate. My 6 foot frame went down to 68 pounds soaking wet. I had gone from a healthy size 8-10 to a one. Was having to buy clothes in the kids department. Went to docs and they thought I was one of them anorexic type folks. They found out, I was actually a pig. I would eat and eat and than some. I was always hungry.

What they discovered was my metabolism was high or maybe it was low. Which ever one it was it was what was causing the major weight lose. Plus I had so much energy I was always bouncing off the walls too. Looked like I had a major case of AD/HA. Think that is why I spent so many years in the restaurant business. You would always be on the go. Also made me a great multi-task person. Couldn't stay still.

Now,... all I want is my naps. Hilarious! The years have changed the metabolism of the body. The thyroid is not functioning like the old days. That is part of my weight gain. When you go to docs they check blood pressure and all them other things, but unless you ask they don't check your thyroid, which has alot to do with weight gain/loss.

Some of ladies from church brought me some of their used clothes. I went from size 6, 110 pounds for almost 25 some years, and felt good. Just been the past few years, from age, menopause and throid that the weight has come on. New pants from them I put on yesterday is a size 12. First time in months I can put on a pair of pants and pull up the zipper. All the weight is in belly and hips. Being so tall and having a big bone structure, German heritage, I can carry alot of weight and folks say I still look to skinny, but the heart and the rest of the body feels every one of them extra pounds.

I really need to cut out the 4th..5th and 6 th meals during the night. KyWoods, I do eat before bed. If I don't than I up all night with my stomach growling and don't sleep much as it is from old age. I sleep an hour or two, am awake, kbusy doing something, eat, go back t sleep for another hour or so and that the pattern every night.

Sharon... No wonder you couldn't finish your sandwhich. Not after drinking a smoothie. Smoothies are a good way to get fresh fruits into yoru system. Bad thing about them is the sugar content is so high. Runs up the metabolism. Makes ya want bounce. It not pretty to look at, but start adding some spinach or kale to your smoothies. Little chunks of sweet potato too. Drink will have green tinge, which puts some folsk off to drinking it, but never did understand why as folks eat green salads and other green veggies. Why not drink the,? The kale, spinach and other greens add nutrients, protein but not the sugar from all the fruits. Play around with making different smoothies using veggies and not just fruits.

LOL. Head cheese. Yep I have had it. First tasted it when living in Germany. My German friends thought it would funny to give it to me. They told me to eat it and I would hear musica. Hilarious! Wasn't too bad, of course I had a bratwurst and a beer to go with it at the time.

Oh and Sharon. .. I do that fix something to eat. Sometimes can only eat a bit of it and than don't want the rest. It will usually sit wrapped in fridge til next trash day. *Blush*

One way I have learned to eat, when I didn't want to sit down and eat, was to take my sandwiches with me as I went for walks or just walked aroused gardens. Amazing how as you do that, the rest of the sandwich or things like burritos or other foods will disappear. You come in and wonder where it has gone. Confused Of course if you are like me, after checking plants and covering up roots from toad beds and such, the fingers are dirty, and they leave dirt finger prints on the sandwich, but oh well, I little dirt never hurt anybody and it gets eaten anyways.

Sharon... DO NOT READ THIS!! Hilarious! We don't need you losing any more weight. For others trying, you might read The Who's Who about Joseph. He's lost like 30 lbs. I trying to follow his diet. Of course, it doesn't help that I ate a whole box of chocolate Pirouline cookies. Was so good going down. All in moderation, isn't that what you said Sharon. Whistling I refrained from the second box. Rolling on the floor laughing

Larry... So funny about your day. Part about doing dishes. Rolling on the floor laughing

Part about Wilma already having you even funnier. Rolling on the floor laughing

Guess I gonna out and feed the birds half the days rations now since it been so cold and than later this affection the other half for the other birds that come in.

Catch all later. Everybody have a great day!!!!!!! Thumbs up

Goes singing Oh What a Beautiful Morning. Out the door. Smiling

Good Morning,
Oh wow, what a surprise, there is a dusting of snow all over my world. And the sun is so bright it sparkles. I am sick and tired of a little dusting of snow. Dry snow so it blows around and you'd think you were in a snow globe. Pretty though.

Star, save your worries, I've always been the same size, pretty much the same weight and the thyroid was checked I think last year, so no thyroid problems and really I have no problems anyway -- just trying to gain an extra few pounds. I think the thyroid thing rears it's ugly head when the weight changes so rapidly, but I've never had that problem. I just stay stuck on the same numbers and they happen to be low.

January is more than half gone! In a little while I'll be seeing snowdrops blooming.
Y'all stay warm.

I think I told you my bloodwork was great yesterday. It was but one thing she mentioned and said it was NOTHING to even think twice about since it was just 2 points was my blood sugar was 102 instead of 100 which is normal. I ask why that would happen....too many sweets over the holidays?Six months ago it was 93, but she was definitely not concerned. She said as we get older our pancreas slows down and that is what causes it. All our organs seem to change as we get older and for God sake I am going on 86 so she laughs at me and says you are great, keep on doing what you are doing and you will be find. She knows about my pizza binges, wine and beer and french fries. Today is a Pizza day. I can hardly wait until they open to order my large double cheese pizza and depending, I may also get a cheese steak with sauce for lunch and keep the pizza for dinner and freeze what I do not eat, which will be most of it. I can only eat two pieces before I have had enough. Then when I get the urge I take a piece out of the freezer and there is my lunch for that day.

Sharon, you are not really thin at that weight since you are so short. That is good. My normal weight should be 125 at 5ft 2in and I am 149 - 150....but on the doc's scales yesterday I weighed in at 155. Shoes, jeans, two layers of cloths...but still 155. I hate their scales. All in my belly and butt. You get the picture and it is not pretty. But, I feel good and that is what counts. I would love to get more walking in but with my balance problem and arthritis in the hips, it is not pleasant to walk many of the wet and cold days. Three years ago I walked twice a day, in all weather, but I just can not do it now.
These are the things that depress me. Yet, I hate the treadmill. it bores me and I can not read on it like some can. I do listen to music or watch tV but I still get bored. Instead I go to the chiropractor weekly and he adjusts, legs, hamstrings, and neck. Keeps me moving painlessly. Love that guy.

Now that I have shared much more information than you really cared to hear, I feel better. My confessions for today. I am about to get seeds ready to ship and wait for my new microwave/convection oven to arrive.

My kids are enjoying their anniversary today. 33 years together. That for me would be a record. That is another story. But they are so happy. No kids, both work for the State and they have a great life together. I am so proud of both of them.
Time for the second cup of coffee and out to feed the cats and birds before I tackle cleaning bird cages inside. Later.

Jacquie - I think you're absolutely wonderful and perfect Thumbs up I also believe that you should eat whatever you want, whenever you want - you're happy - and that is what matters! My microwave converts to convection and I love it. I rarely use the microwave part but use the convection all the time. I have two loaves of bread baking it in convection mode right now!

That just reminded me, JB. I measured a little over 5'1" without shoes at the doc's office the other day. I was so excited, I think I grew!! Funny how they take tell you to slip your shoes off for height and yet you keep them on for weight. Anyway, maybe I'm really growing, but probably not.

I am not worried about my weight. I think the doctors just choose it as a topic of contention simply because there is no other area that they can yell at me about. And he said at the end to just keep on doing what I'm doing, just don't lose any weight. So no worries. Not even about those 3 pounds, even though that included the layers, Vic.

I'm thinking about a nap. Already. I feel like a bear who came out of hibernation too early. My house is clean, there's snow on the ground, I have nothing to do.

Hey, Charlie, your mayor is staying out of the headlines these days. What's happening with him?

I really need to stop reading the news. I read about the execution in Ohio yesterday then on the heels of that I read about Adam Lanza's warped mind and combined, they took the wind right out of my sails. Both of those men were mentally deranged, yet not on parallel scales. I guess there are no parallels for mental issues and I'm sure Toni could address that thought much better than I. Anyway, I probably ruined my entire day just by reading the news.

Hey JB, why isn't my jasmine blooming? It hasn't bloomed in a year. And it's spindly. Do I need to prune it?

Be yourself, you can be no one else
I'm here, Vic. Reading but not saying anything, apparently.

Since starting physical therapy for my stiff hip, I have spent a lot of time doing the prescribed stretching and strength building exercises, and sitting, keeping close company with my heating pad while reading and trying to stay loosened up for the next round. I had not only lost a lot of flexibility in that hip, I have also lost a lot of strength. Yesterday's session at the clinic involved pulling my upper leg sideways, using a wide strap placed high on my leg, with the therapist pulling back on it with his weight to break up deposits between pelvis and sacrum. Not too uncomfortable at the time, but later, trying to do the whole exercise routine, WOW! I did only part of it last night but this morning went better. Just now finished another round of them, and will do more before bed. Good thing I have no pressing schedule until Monday when I have another appointment.

I believe that the reason for the stiffness was related to my badly sprained ankle a year ago in December. It was a bad one, and I kept it pretty much immobile for a couple of months, then kept it wrapped when I needed to go outside and walk on uneven ground, and overnight because I would hurt it while doing something as simple as turning over or stretching. I walked carefully and differently while my ankle was bandaged, and I think that is when some of my range of mobility decreased and as a result of that, my leg muscles got lazy.

JB, tell us about your birds.

Larry, isn't it amazing what unique are realistic art can be made from ordinary items we would not associate with art at all. Wrenches. Had to smile at your pun.

If I can find the right file, I will show you some junk art I saw at a yard and flower show a few years ago. It isn't as realistic, and most of it will make you smile. The items were for sale, and the price tags made me smile and shake my head.
