After a day of sweat and hard garden labor, I'm proud to announce that it's Summer! Maybe not by the calendar, but it is by me. And it's time for a new thread.

We came from here: http://cubits.org/bluegardens/thread/view/78726/

We're all so busy with gardening, busy with family, with market and with every day life, it's always nice at the end of the day to share a little fun, a few stories, or moans and groans when we need to. That's why we're here and why we've been here for 4+ years now. It's not often that a forum that's only for chat lasts as long as this one has, but I think it's because we are a very diverse group and our different locations as well as our different lives bring us together. We share a love of plants but the most important thing we bring into this Blue Garden is that we are always very kind to each other. That's why we can discuss anything we want to talk about, everything we say is said in kindness.

In today's world, kindness is a rare commodity.

And remember, visitors are always welcome.

Oma just told us good night on the old thread and I'm about ready too, but yesterday I got a box full of plants from Xeramtheum (ATP) in South Carolina. She'd had an Acorn Auction on ATP and I had the high acorn bid so I got the great plants!. Been working all day getting places ready for them.

Almost ready now, and of course I'm exhausted, but my front gardens are looking so good and I think that's where most of these will go. Here's a list of what she sent:

Double Tuberose 'The Pearl', Polianthes tuberosa
Pitcher's Leather Flower Clematis pitcheri
EE Coffee Cups - Colocasia
EE Mojito Colocasia esculenta
EE Illustris Colocasia esculenta
Pineapple Lily Eucomis comosa
Pineapple Lily Eucomis 'Leia'
Yellow Rain Lily Zephrantes citrina
Wax Flower Hoya carnosa
ConfederateRose Hibiscus mutabilis (YES!!!! Love this!)
Chinese Cucumber Trichosanhes kirilowii
4 o'clock Mirabilis jalapa (YES!!)
Moon Vine Ipomoea alba
Datura innoxia
Ornamental Sweet Potato Margarita Ipomoea batatas (love this lime color)
Persian Shield Srobilanthes dyeriana

Everything was packed so well it was so green and there was not a lost leaf or a broken stem or even a bent vine. Gorgeous plants.

Here's the thread where it tells about them and where the auction was:
http://allthingsplants.com/thread/view/25458/Acorn-Auction-2...

So tomorrow I'll finish planting and then I've decided to move ferns to the front as well, along with more of my hosta. Fun fun fun!

Y'all have a really good night! Group hug

Happy June to you, Sharon and all that come here!
Wow, what a treasure box of plants you received. I went to ATP to see the pictures. How nice! You will be a very busy lady for sure. I am sure that Sunshine will be a wonderful cheer leader.
As you can see, I was not able to pillow my head yet. Soon....I hope!

Me too, Oma. My mind is going in circles because I have another package of Gloriosa lilies coming from jmorth who lives in Northern Illinois this next week. I have a place for them but need to work on the soil before they get here. He's mailing the Monday. Ouch.

It's more a matter of where I put these plants I got today, some I'm not at all familiar with. And that is what I'm working on this weekend! Tired, but it is a good tired.

Y'all have a nice evening.

Sharon - sounds lovely that you got a nice box of plants. I'm not buying any plants or pretty much anything of "what I would keep for my home" as things may be a little more concrete about us moving. I don't want to move. I walked around my yard today depressed as anything as I have put so much time, blood, sweat, tears.. Not to mention thousands of dollars... Just to leave it? But DH has promised me that he'll make sure that my new garden, if we leave, will be just as beautiful. That helps console me. But I did finish buying the tile & mortar for the kitchen.. So I will get that going soon. Two day job. Still need concrete board & grout, and next Sunday going to do a "dry run" on the tile so I know exactly if I have enough or not. Also bought a fireplace face as, when I covered the fire place, I threw away the old face as it was very rusty & bad looking. So as soon as I get rid of the 75 gal aquarium that's in front of the fireplace, I'll reopen it & reface it. I was getting "bids" on putting the tile in the kitchen. If be supplying everything, just need the labor. Got bids from $400 to $1200. That's more than I make in 2 weeks & more than an ER doc makes per patient. Who do these people think they are??

But still sad as anything. It's not that I like Denver or Colorado. It's that I hate moving. I thought I was going to live in this house for the rest of my life. Oh well, things change & it doesn't do a darned bit of good to whine about it. Just suck it up & keep moving forward. At least I'll have the ability to grow more different things in TX than here.

Sunshine is such a happy girl. You're so lucky to have her in your life!!

Good Morning!

Happy Summer and look at the pretty girl Sunshine Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Oma, glad you got outside yesterday and got some fresh air!

Arlene - It's always a good when everything sells at market, huh? Hurray! Hurray!

Sharon - Oh wow - did you ever SCORE on those plants. I love my confederate rose. Some years it blooms before first frost and sometimes it doesn't but for the years that it does, it's so beautiful.

Toni - Don't be sad - you have so much to be thankful for, no matter where you live Group hug Group hug Praying for peace on your heart Lovey dubby

Charlie - I hope Carol is feeling better since her fall?

Larry - Thinking and praying for you and yours and for all the broken "stuff" I hope you're getting it replaced little by little.

We've made a huge dent in cleaning up the fallen tree. We've had so much rain that we can't get in the gardens so doing other things are fun Thumbs up

Good Morning!!

Toni, look at it as another adventure, climbing another mountain. It's tough and tiresome, but once it's done the work and worry are over and you'll feel so much better. It could lead to new and better things, for one you'll get away from George and for another you'll be away from that job that doesn't make you happy. Look forward. There will be other roses, other plants, other blooms to wake up to. You have your whole life ahead of you, grab it and hang on. You will be just fine.

Vic, sure glad the tree is all cleaned up. My yard guys moved the broken half of the one that fell here up to the trunk that was left standing. I'll get industrious some cool morning and maybe with a tarp I can drag it all down to the street. It isn't even on my land, that tree, but somebody needs to do it. So far, nobody has volunteered. Not even Sunshine.

Another night without her pink harness, as long as she knows where it is for morning, she's fine so far. Instead of her paws or her nose waking me every morning, now she crawls up from the foot of the bed, inch by inch I can feel her crawling; gets as close to my side as she can get and puts her head right beside mine on my pillow. I'm not real excited to have a dog whose head is beside mine on my pillow, but it is what it is. Better than licking my nose or barking in my ear. If I don't get up right away, she starts with that chortle thing, something between a laugh and a yodel. I'm up as soon as that starts.

She and Jazz are getting along a little better. There's still some progress that must be made there. Sunshine wants to play and Jazz is too grumpy so he slaps her on the nose and Sunshine yelps. Funny farm in my bedroom. Jazz still won't leave that room, though he can at any time. Daisy loves it because she has Sunshine trained and she rules the rest of the house. Daisy is quite happy that Jazz is out of sight, out of mind. I'm just glad my house is big enough for all of us.

Y'all have a good day, looks like rain but I still have to pot up those plants!

Charlie - ? I don't understand... what about the aquarium... I'm trying to sell it.. not that I have sold it already. everyone wants it for free. If you were to buy what I'm offering in the store, it'd run you over $1000. People don't want to give me the $250 I'm asking.

I hate battling a summertime cold. I thought it was allergies, no, it's a cold. Bleh. And I have so much to do and just really don't feel like doing any of it. I lost my Golden Chain tree. It was dead from about 6" above the ground and up.. and it was a 12' tree. I'd planted it like 4 years ago and that last snow we had a few weeks ago just completely zapped it. :( So I dug it up yesterday & trashed it out.. that wasn't fun as it'd put down some pretty sturdy roots. Going to put in probably a Crimson Queen maple.. that's the kind that stay red all season.

Guess I need to go to the store & buy some white paint. Went through my unicorn collection last night a little bit.. gonna get rid of most of it. Anyone want a ton of unicorn crap?

It was the way you worded it, Toni, a little bit unclear: 'Soon as I get rid of the 75 gallon aquarium' . . . . we didn't know if you had sold it and were waiting till it was picked up or what. See?

Cute photo Toni - You immune system is down because you're stressed. Take a deep breath and calm down dear friend. Take some extra Vitamin C too.

Sharon - I think it's funny how that sweet "little" Sunshine wakes you each morning. Hilarious!

Same here, it's always a comedy with the pets. Love it!

Vic, when she stands with her paws on me, she's just about 4 feet tall, not including her front legs. I'm right at 4'11". Stretched out beside me, well, you get the idea. Curled up at the foot of the bed, she's fine and that's where she sleeps at night. Lots of room at the foot of the bed. But every morning, she slithers up alongside me.

This is all new because for all winter I slept on the loveseat because I could keep my legs propped up to avoid cramps. She slept on her bed on the floor beside me or in a chair across from me. So I've only been in my bed continually since I started the meds back in January. Not so much cramping now so I didn't need a place to prop my legs. So this is all new.

Funny how things happen and how she adapts to new things. Interesting dog. Only rarely does she make a sound inside, never barks unless someone pulls into my driveway. But she often talks at night, a lot like some of those videos on YouTube where the dog is talking to the guy about wanting a cat. Never loud, just like she's telling me something. Then she gets on the laughing thing and it's a hoot. The more I laugh at her -- and it's so funny, who can keep from laughing - the more she giggles. I don't know another word for it, it's just her laugh. Goofy dog.

She knows I'm getting ready to go out to finish planting and she knows she can't go with me because she's just too much help. So she's sitting here watching every move I make. Every. Single. Move.

Sorry, Toni, thought you'd sold it already.

Love to hear about the complicated interpersonal relationships at Sharon's house.

The peony bush took a beating with that hard rain and wind on Wednesday, when we received six inches of water in just a short time.
But I thought I would show you what is here. I do not have an expensive camera but this is how the bush looks. And I added a picture of one of my Orchid plants that DH bought for me back in the early Spring. It just lost the last of the blooms today. I have a white one blooming but the picture did not show up very well so I am not posting it. The white one has or had twelve blooms and the other had twenty-two.

Charlie, the flowers are so pretty. What a garden you must have.
Sharon, I enjoy hearing about the adventures with your Sunshine.
Toni, I know moving is so hard. This house is not fancy by any stretch of the imagination but I sure would hate to have to move. It is such a terrible job. But somehow one gets the strength to do what needs to be done. And I thank God for that because life is a struggle sometimes. And for some, a lot of times. I wish you the best, Toni.

I had very little sleep last night and tonight I watered all the two long beds so I am really tired. Forgive me for not mentioning all the postings. It just is not going to happen tonight.

One rule -- if you can call it a rule -- Oma, is that we don't feel that we need to respond to everybody's post. We really don't. It's nice when we do, but I don't think any of us expect that all of us will always have something to say. So don't you ever worry about mentioning every post you read. If we don't have anything to say about something, we don't even try to say anything at all. So don't ever worry about it.

That peony is absolutely beautiful! And so is the orchid. I'm so glad you have some blooms and such gorgeous ones at that. It was well worth the wait, I think. It's also good that you are able to do things, even little things around on the porch and outside.

I'm still planting, but it stormed most all afternoon so I'm still not finished. I'm afraid storms are predicted off and on all week, but I'll just plant between raindrops.

Y'all have a real good evening. Sunshine is still in her 'shirt' and draped over the fat chair arm. She would find the softest most comfortable chair in the house.
