I received a message from Oma's husband a little while ago and she had to have surgery, I think earlier today, because she was having severe abdominal pain. Turns out she had a mass in the upper colon area, they removed it and some of the upper colon area as well. It was cancer but the surgeon/doctors do think they got it all and there will be no problem with the colon, so that's good news. Her husband says she will probably be in the hospital for the next couple of days, but other than that, I'm not sure of any next steps.
I know you'll be in prayer for her and will keep her in your thoughts. I'll tell you any news as I receive it.
I'm also sure she will welcome C-mails when she feels like reading them.

Thanks for letting us know, Sharon. Poor Oma. I am glad that the doctors think they got the whole tumor. Hope she doesn't have to have one of those nasty colostomy bags - or if she does, only needs it for a short time.
oh my, poor poor Oma.. my thoughts are definitely with her...
Never be afraid of a scar. It just means that you were stronger than something that tried to hurt you.

I talked again with her husband and there isn't much new to tell you except for two things, the mass was about the size of a small tangerine; they removed 22 inches of upper colon and they were able to reconnect, so there's no need for the colostomy bag. They also removed some of the lymph nodes to see if the cancer had spread but it didn't look to the surgeon as if it had spread from the mass, and it all seemed to not have broken through the sac it was growing in.
I started to tell him that I had added her illness to our BG chat thread and he then said that she was awake and would like to hear what I had to say about her friends and he then handed her the phone. I told her that she was on our prayer thread and that everybody was concerned and everyone was sending her C mails and prayers and wished her well. She answered and sounded so weak, just broke my heart. It really did.
She told me she would be so happy to get the Cmails when she was able to read them.

I am glad that she doesn't need a bag. Perhaps the tumor was causing some of her tiredness and discomfort. I am so glad that she won't need the bag. Surgery, anesthesia and lack of eating would make anyone weak. Hope she begins to feel better with that nasty thing removed. I am so glad that they seem to have caught it in time. Must be a difficult time for her husband as well. Wishing them both well.
