I have no idea of which variety this one is, but it IS frost hardy & evergreen, very hardy & tolerates dry periods very well.
It grows in morning to mid afternoon sun & survives only on the occassional watering but mostly the run-off rain from a small section of garage roofing. The soil is free draining & it multiples by thick running rhisomes, which are easy to divide, but somewhat stubborn to get out for propagation.
Another 'blue' lovely that I was given by a friend as a 'I don't know what this is' while it was only a chunk of stem! :)

Lots of the gardens here contain not only the 1940's descendants, but many 'homeless' plant babies. :)

I have a Louisiana iris too, actually I have two of them; only one is blue and the other is nearly black. Not sure I have pictures on this computer.

Found one picture, LA Black Gamecock. The other looks very much like your last photo above.

Oh, WOW! I think I saw a nearly black one on eBay here once .. it fetched over $50 a section! Way out of my bracket! Crying
