Toni, I think that stained glass art would be perfect for you. Here is a step by step "how to" video. I didn't have so many fancy tools as this lady has. I also made another piece using a different tequnique with strips of lead going between the pieces. This copper foil method is easier. You could take a stained glass class where you would probably have access to things like that grinder, and also have somebody there to answer your questions as you get stuck. Any place that sells stained glass art supplies should know about a class in your area.

Mary, there is only one person left on Stan's side of the family, his much older brother who lives far away and is quite ill. We're all the family he's got. No chemo for Bonnie. Wilma and I visited her today after church. She's quite weak, but says she's feeling a lot better today than yesterday. The doctors have finally found an intravenous anti nausea drug that seems to be working. She's still bleeding internally. We just happened to be there when her doctor walked in. She (the doctor) told Bonnie that later today she was going to consult with a team of colon cancer specialists to decide whether it's possible/desirable to put a stent in her small intestine. We should know more tonight. The doctor said that it if Bonnie does get to go home, it would be at least Wednesday before that happens.

Mary, the stained glass in the door is lovely. Great idea!

Speaking of stained glass work, my BIL, Dave Houser, does exquisite work. He even received a commission from the federal government to do a series of stained glass windows for the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Here is a link to his website, which is being worked on, so not all the links are live: http://houserglass.com/glass/

Larry, I hope Bonnie is in no pain. The whole thing is just incredibly heart breaking and through it all she's been so strong.

Mary, that's a great how to video. I love stained glass but it's been a long time since I've made it. It's really a fairly easy process once you've finally become used to the tools and the feel of them.

Is that Rosemary's husband, Larry? Such beautiful work. I remember seeing his 'quilt' some time ago, but that is one of the links that isn't working right now. I think it was the Log Cabin pattern that I saw. You must have shown it to me awhile ago.

Thanks, Larry. He has some beautiful and unusual designs. Thanks for the update on Bonnie. I'm glad to know that there is something working for the nausea.

Another fire is burning southeast of us. It started yesterday from a rollover car accident. The people who have Eagle Creek Orchard where Ryan works are on level 2 evacuation orders. Level 1 is it might happen, get ready. Level 2 is it probably will happen, get set. Level 3 is go right now! We can see a lot of smoke, and with today's wind it is quickly gobbling up the acres. Since early morning we have been seeing a heilicopter going over with it's 500 gallon bucket trailing behind, traveling between the airport where it refuels, and the fire. Maybe more than one heilicopter shuttling back and forth. We haven't seen the big heilicopter yet, it is probably working on other fires. Today's weather with low humidity, wind and 90 degrees, plus the extra dry conditions, are a very bad combination.

Interesting question, Sharon.
I think that the purest (?) form of social living is among the social insects.
No learning. Just programmed in the genes.
It seems to just work perfectly there, no if ands or buts.

Hope Bonnie's more comfortable, Larry, and is also getting to go back home.
Very interesting pictures from your trip.
In the bedroom: thought that would be the waste bin!

St Jacobs (originally Jakobstettel) is located near where Tim went to university, in Waterloo, On.
Went there with Tim whenever we visited him and we all still go there now.
St Jacobs is well known for the Old Order Mennonites, Amish, there, but there's various sorts of Mennonites in the region; namely, Old Order and Conservative and Modern Mennonites).
I get the impression that the Amish get a couple of kids to run a horse and buggy through the village, a few times a day, for tourists.
However, the Amish are into pretty sophisticated farming.
I think they're also noted for renting out heavy equipment.

Classy door, Mary.
Dare I say, a work of art!

Sharon, yes, that's Rosemary's husband. He's a delightful guy, very engaging and very engaged. You can talk to him about anything. He loves people and has a degree in social work. He and Rosemary ended up in the hills of West Virginia, where Dave was employed as director of four county medical clinics. It was a stressful job, because the doctors who worked in the clinics were there because they had to be. They got their degrees at a reduced rate by agreeing to work in these clinics for a certain period. As soon as that period was up, they were gone. So it was a constant revolving door, and Dave had to keep searching for doctors to staff his clinics. The attitude of some of the doctors was a problem as well. Dave got burned out and gave stained glass work a try. He loved it and was soon in business for himself. Rosemary is a retired school teacher.

Bonnie is resting comfortably and in no pain. I just got back a while ago from visiting Aunt Rose. She's not feeling well and isn't eating. She coughs a lot, but her lungs are clear. Perhaps just a cold. The nursing home called a few minutes ago and said they were starting Rose on antibiotics because she had developed a low grade fever.

There were just four of us for Sunday dinner tonight (Wilma's sister, Betty was able to join us), with Bonnie in the hospital and Aunt Rose not feeling well. We had a pleasant meal in the screen house, something we haven't been able to do for awhile, because both Bonnie and Rose aren't able to walk that far and have trouble doing steps.

Staffing the clinics in the mountains has always been a problem. I'm glad Dave has been able to do something he loves and is great at doing. I remembered that Rosemary taught.

Eating in the screen house was such a treat, I know you all enjoyed it. It just occurred to me that it was Betty that I met, not Aunt Rose. Betty is the one who had the slide show in the little museum, I think. Right?

Larry--I am so sorry for all the medical troubles. When my mother had cancer there were none of the current drugs & she was not awake near the last. I think it was a normal pain killer that the body puts one. Bonnie seems to have great are.

Cloudy & spits of rain here today, just so you couldn't go outside. Of course I watched the Packers on TV anyway.

Larry, I am so sorry to hear about Bonnie but glad they finally found something for the nausea. And now Aunt Rose. You and Wilma have your hands full. I'm glad you get to get away occasionally to keep your sanity.

Mary, I love the stained glass! A hobby I always wanted to try my hand at but never got around to. Toni would be good at it too I think.

Thank you all (notice that's two words, ha ha) for the nice compliments. Stained glass is fun to do. I can't draw worth beans although I did manage to design that piece. Also I can use other people's art work to make pretty and fun things. I'll have to show you my frog, which, like the tree window, was made from scraps from other people's projects. I need to set up a place to work. First though, I should probably find a source for supplies.

Doctors who are just in the profession for the money disgust me.

Fire news: as or 2 hours ago, the people with the orchard business are still at level 2. The wind has driven the fire south, past them and across Highway 86, and appears to be headed for Brownlee Reservoir on the Snake River between Oregon and Idaho, still being driven by the north wind. No estimate on how many acres, square miles, etc, or homes lost. No mention of injuries in the reports we've seen. The lady from the orchard is the person who does our window displays at the co-op, changing them with the seasons. We also sell their fruit at the co-op, and Ryan (neighbor) works there and also takes their fruit to farmer's markets and delivers some to restaurants. I think that with the 2 evacuation level, their orchard should have been missed by the fire. I can probably find out more tomorrow. The wind is now less than it was this afternoon.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

I hope you are right about the fire, Mary and that it changed directions. Better yet, that it just stop. I am so afraid of fires.

I have a cardiologist appointment Wednesday and I'm already dreading it. Not the doctor, but his nurses are simply the most unhappy two I've ever met. Neither is happy with her job or her life, I think. It's a shame to feel that way about them and not even know their names, but it is what it is and they never bothered to tell me names anyway. Life is much too short to waste it in negativity.

It's very cool tonight, almost cold but today was so gorgeous. I'd like to have it again tomorrow.

Y'all have a really good night and a happy Monday! This month is flying by.

Don't nurses wear a clip with their names? Perhaps not in the office. Invent horrible histories for them & it might cheer you up. 59° & it is supposed to reach 70. Packers won yesterday so I went to bed in a cheerful frame of mind. Hope that you can get off more meds, Sharon.

Beautiful as far as temperatures here, but very very very very VERY smokey again. Once again, thick heavy smokey haze covering the city. I really wish that the west coast would get some rain to knock out these fires!!! I feel horrible for anyone stuck in that kind of element.. fires terrify me, but it's the long-term effects that's the worst. We're barely starting to recover from the Hayman fire and that was over 10 years ago.

Spent most of yesterday at the Denver Coliseum as a nationally renown Fossil & Mineral show was on. I was trying to find buyers for some of my father's junk that he left behind.. I found at least 5 people interested, so going back on Saturday. I could sooooooo get into tons of trouble there.. luckily enough I limited my spending to $20 and I spent $15 on myself (I bought 5 beautiful ammonites) and $40 on some earrings for MIL's Christmas gifts.

Happy Monday everyone!
