Larry, that is just awesome how 2 accordions can sound so much like a pipe organ. The men playing them look like they are brothers. What talent!

Cheese curds might be a regional thing. I might find some if I went to a cheese factory. The nearest one is somewhere around Yakima, WA or I suppose something in the Portland area. While I'm surrounded by cows, they are beef cattle Our county had 2 dairies when we moved here 20 some years ago. Both are gone now. They were small family farms. I think that the cost and difficulty of transporting fresh milk to a processing plant became prohibitive, and no doubt there were times when they just had to dump it because of bad weather.

I can hear the wind tonight. The satellite picture showed a long stream of clouds coming straight in off the Pacific. We'll get moisture of some kind out of it.

Lovely music Larry. It does sound like an organ, definatelly not the polka I was always hearing from accordians.

I really could not get the dog to work, but I get the idea.

Quite windy tonight as well as cold. I hate the sound of the wind at night.

I am glad you contributed a bit, Arlene. After the count they show the contribution area & the US has become just black. but every little people (us) helps. We are members of the MA Audubon society which was where the whole thing started. John used to volunteer for the & even this year helped with the Halloween celebrations. He has carved pumpkins before, but this year was helping place some of the decorations, the candle holders set out for decorations.

Lucy, the dog wandered every where checking out toys and even shelves of other things but then he finally came to a carton filled with stuffed toys and in the back was a little stuffed pocupine. He had to stretch to get it, but that little porcupine never left the dog's mouth the rest of the trip through the store. The dog looked like a blonder version of Sunshine and he was for sure on a mission. Once he found that toy, he was ready to go.

It's so cold, about 25* and only lightly windy but it's chilling.

Sunshine's hoping I won't make her go out in this weather since she's already bedded down with Big Bear, but we gotta go just one more time.

Happy Valentine's Day from Diva Dog and Big Blond Bear

Sunshine and Big Bear are just beyond cute! Did she ever have such a big, wonderful stuffed toy to love before now? BB is as big as she is! I see now that she has given up taking the bear to bed and just made the bear into her bed.

I am just all carried away with the precious dogs and their much loved possessions. Thanks for all the input and for the precious pictures. Gives me the warm fuzzies just reading about and seeing it all. Dogs are truly amazing and the majority of people in this world have no clue. It is nice to have people here at this forum who truly appreciate our four-legged canine furry friends.

Just had a chance to listen to the accordion duet. Very unusual, to say the least. Those fellas didn't look too old -- I wonder how long it took them to master that kind of playing. I had an uncle who played the accordion -- he never sounded like that. Smiling I like accordion music though, probably from growing up listening to him play. Larry -- do you know where those men are playing? I didn't recognize the location given.

Mary Ann. Why are you up at this hour?? And how's your poor stomped upon foot?

Mary, Sunshine has never had a large anything till now. Remember how she acted when I brought it through the door? She was so excited she nearly jerked it away from me. She hears my car somehow before I even get to the house because she is always at the window when I pull up into my driveway. Anyway, I could see her through the window and those big brown eyes were even bigger when she saw the bear. When I came in she was all but dancing, I had a hard time getting to the table so I could put every thing down. She didn't let go of that bear for probably 30 minutes. I have no idea how she knew it was for her. No idea at all.

But you're right, first she tied to drag it around with her but of course it won't go through doors sideways. So now she just wrestles around with it on the floor, grooms it, nibbles it, a little like a mama dog. So now that she knows what it will and won't do, she flops down on it and naps or just rests. She hasn't chewed it at all, though every other stuffed toy she chews till it's in shreds. Not this one. This Bear doesn't have one gnawed spot on it and it is clean as if it just came off the shelf.

Bear isn't allowed in the kitchen nor near a door. She is only allowed in the den where my computer and the TV are. Also where her toy box is. Those are Sunshine's rules. Bear stays in the area where SS either naps or plays or where I brush her So I don't know really how she feels about it, but you see what I see and you know what I know. Tonight is the first time she's actually fallen asleep while lying on it. Usually she just props her chin on it and looks around or rests.

Elena, sometimes I look at her little head and I'm just astonished at how smart dogs can be. She's not anything special as far as genes are concerned, but she knows every thing I say to her or at least most of it. If I say a sentence, she'll recognize words in it. I think Lucy said some time ago that they just remember words, not sentences. Maybe so, I don't really know, but it could be the use of the words she hears most often . . . but if I ask her to make a choice, she will.

I'll say . . . Do you want to go outside or do you want to play? She'll either run to the door or she'll run to her toy box. So we do one or the other. Late at night, Do you want to go to bed or do you need to go outside. She'll either go to the door or she'll turn and walk down the hall. Her choice and I never taught her to do that. Never gave her treats for things like that, she just started doing it on her own. If she's a little restless and I'm not ready to go to bed yet, I'll tell her she can go on to bed and I'll be there in a minute. She turns and goes down the hall. Now if I'm not watching the time at about 11:30 at night she'll come tap on my leg or my arm to take her outside, just like clockwork. She potties then comes right back in.

So I don't know. She's just Sunshine and I am so lucky to have her.

Now I must try the bed thing again. Y'all rest well and wake up to a Happy Valentine's Day.
I think we are in for a stormy one.

I've never had cheese curds either but one of our groceries carries them. Do you eat them "as is" or heat them? At the grocery, they are in a container like you would find cottage cheese.

Mary, I hope you had a nice visit with your neighbor.

Larry, hoping and praying Palmer and Brique and kitty get along and Palmer will have a new forever home today. WOW - on your accordion link.

Jean, beautiful egret. I don't think I've ever seen a white one. When we see them near the water garden, we get nervous as they want to eat our fish. We see them at the back pond a lot.

Elena - what a sweet video. Cool website.

Arlene - are you all supposed to get any of the ice pellets/sleet? It's supposed to start here after midnight. By Tuesday, we'll be in the 50's and even warmer by the end of the week. The Vinca are germinating but this is the part where they are so fragile and I do that worry thing about too much or not enough water, too much or not enough light, etc.

Lucy - I hope you are staying in and staying warm. It's wicked cold up your way.

Sharon - love the photo of Sunshine and her dear best friend - so sweet Lovey dubby The intelligence of dogs just blows me away. Just certain movements or words and Gussie knows exactly what's up and what's going on.

Stay WARM and safe - all!

I think I have it figured out. (Dogs often are smarter than some people that we all know aren't they?) Maybe they are just angels in disguise.......To us they pretty much are our furry 4 legged angels sent to us from God for sure. Happy Valentine's Day everyone. Lovey dubby

Vicki,
That was a bad bad storm!

Sharon,
Laughing, but I swear I could feel that cold nose!
Not buttermilk. Cheese curds can be white or yellow. They are basically white cheddar. To squeak they must be fresh and room temp. They are salty, but not overwhelmingly so.

http://livetoindulge.com/2010/08/04/squeakalicious-cheese-cu...

Lucy,
The twins are 4, but will be 5 in June.

Nap,
I love fried mozzarella so I think a fried cheese curd would be delicious!!

Thanks Larry,
I wonder too. I can't seem to find the cardinal. It falls out of the hole easily so I lput put in the garage over the winter.

Moon,
Beautiful egret! There are two birds I have trouble getting pictures of. Pheasants and herons....

Elena,
That was such an adorable dog!!

Arlene,
The last picture would have been all the kids and a mysterious DH in disguises.

Larry,
And a duo. Magnificent!
I didn't realize both sides of an accordion were played.
Ah, no wonder it sounded like an organ.

Moon,
Altho, at the end I told Charlie ''there's the accordion I recognize!" The spread and squeeze.

Lucy,
I had to pause the dog video and let it load. It was very slow.

Sharon,
I can see the ''hope we stay in'' look on Sunshine's face. Poor girl. Bear sure was the perfect gift for her. I'll bet no one ever brought her a gift before.

Mary Ann,
That made me laugh. My uncle also played the accordion. They must have learned from the same place because it was pretty basic playing.

Vicki,
After we buy them and get home, the rest are refrigerated. They seem more like cheese then, losing the squeak and gaining moisture.

We might have a half inch of snow now. Charlie is out feeding birds and scooping the driveway.

Have a safe day!

The twins first day at Zion Lutheran preschool. Next year they go to public school. Zion is a wonderful place and all the kids went there first.

I eat cheese curds right out of the refrigerator. But the deep fried ones sound scrumptious. Maybe heating them would be a good thing.

I forgot to mention how much I enjoyed both videos. Larry's accordion duo (my dad dabbled with the accordion - he would have loved to hear this). And the service dog picking out his own toy was heartwarming.

Frozen pipes here today. We've had minus temperatures all night. Down to -11 at 5 AM. Right now it's -9. Got the water running again, but running onto the basement floor unfortunately. We turned off the valve to the house, which may cause it to freeze again. Got a guy coming over to check it out soon.

Have a nice Valentines Day everyone. Group hug

Happy Valentine's Day! It is snowing to beat the band!! Thumbs down

Sharon -- I went to bed around midnight -- couldn't fall asleep -- gave up after an hour of tossing and turning, and got up. Got on the computer -- and there I stayed for a couple of hours, finally falling asleep in my chair. At quarter after three this morning, I woke up and went back to bed. That time I managed to fall asleep. I hate it when that happens............ oh -- and the stomped upon foot is just fine. I have a line of bruise across each toe where the edge of her hoof landed -- but it's not painful, and no longer swollen. I did find Arnica gel and used it -- I'm sure that made a difference.

Sally -- those two little kids are adorable!!

Mary -- I think you're right about curds being a regional thing. There are/were plenty of dairy farms in Illinois where I grew up, but I never heard of curds until I visited Wisconsin as an adult. And after all -- Wisconsin is the cheese state (where all those Cheeseheads live Big Yellow Grin Big Yellow Grin ), so stands to reason. Anyway -- they sure are tasty little things!

Today is Larry and Wilma's visitation day. I'm so excited -- and can't wait to see who they choose to join their family. I think a national day of love is the perfect day for this!! Lovey dubby

I wish we would hear from Andi............

Sorry to hear about your frozen pipes, Nancy -- always such a nuisance/bummer.............

there -- I corrected them -- now I feel much better!!

I got up at 8 this morning, about an hour ago. By the time Sunshine was ready to come in, I could feel little things falling from the sky. Now everything is blanketed in white, snow has covered even the tree limbs and I can't see the houses behind me. Thunder is rolling around all over the place, my arm is dripping blood, the injury caused when Sunshine tried to climb to the top of my head to get away from the thunder of course, Daisy puked and coffee is pooling on my kitchen floor.

Happy Valentine's Day to you, too.

Good morning. I woke up to the sound of raindrops on the metal roof. Slow, restful rain drops. I stirred up and added to the fire in the wood stove, fed the black cat, read the thermometer which says 34 this morning, and sat down with my mug of tea to see who posted since I went to bed. The usual routine.

Sharon, it's funny how Sunshine knew the BBB was for her. Also interesting that she doesn't see it as something to be torn apart like her smaller animal toys, this one is in a special category! How did Daisy react to it? Do Sunshine and Daisy still interact the same as before BBB?

I had a good but quick visit with the neighbor while our husbands did some measuring. I climbed the stepladder to look into the new loft which already has a bed, a nightstand with a lamp, and a small bench. Moving furniture into such a place was much easier before the guys add the railing. We also looked at her cold frames beside the south side of the house. She had planted a few vegies in them last fall to see how they would do over the winter. The covers for them came from a school in California, to Bend (middle of the state), and then here. Hubby never got the greenhouse built from them, so we gave most of them away. I kept a few for a cold frame which also never got built. Last fall I gave them to our neighbor and in a few days she had 3 cold frames (which my hubby helped design and build). The plexiglass is 1/4 inch thick. When the lids are raised there is a chicken wire screen to keep the deer from munching the plants.

I keep thinking about the shoemaker's family who never had shoes..... but I am very glad that my neighbor has cold frames!

We came home and the guys went to the shop to cut and stain boards for a railing and a ladder which will be fastened to the wall. This loft will obviously be only for people who are young and agile. They have long wished for a way to increase their bed space in the guest room. The house has steep roofs, so the space is small but now is also usable.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

We have an inch per hour snow storm and I'm in the middle of it Nobody can see me either. I had to rush through that first post of the morning because Sunshine was hanging off my arm, the dripping blood one. Today I will paint by the light of the snow.

Anyway, sorry about the frozen pipes Nancy. If you had thunder snow bet the pipes wouldn't be frozen.

I get all these email alerts about dogs and this morning the topic was '7 ways to know your dog loves you':

* she pees in front of you
* she laughs right out loud
* she leans against you
* she presses her body against the length of you when sleeping
* she licks your wounds
* she jumps on you
* she follows you around

Oh boy am I ever loved. I believe Sunshine has covered them all I am sitting here with my arm and leg wrapped in bath towels, but only on the side she can reach while I'm sitting at the computer. Otherwise I would have already bled to death. And the white blanket now covers my world in its entirety.

Sally, until I see pictures again, I always keep thinking the twins are boys. How could I ever forget that beautiful little girl.

I am so serious when I say my world is blindingly white. It really truly is. Carole, ya wanna go snow-shoe-ing? Might not be hitting Nashville but I'll bet MM and Carole are as white as I am. Now I can't even remember what I was going to write. Vic, you can have this storm early, in fact, right now. There's already enough to stretch from here to there. Fastest snow cover I've ever seen but no more thunder since the first roll. I hope that's over too I think we might even get the first 6 predicted inches within the hour.

Thunder snow. Unbelievable.

I want to get these paintings finished so I can work on some center ideas for quilts. I am so glad the DG quilting gals landed in one of my Cubits. Their quilts are making my mouth water.

I got a Valentine card from Shoe this morning, that's why I was thinking of snow shoe-ing. Heh

I need to shove my thoughts together a little better or you'll be sending the men in white coats in my direction. Whew. What a morning it has been and it's just getting started.

Mary, you live the most down to earth life of anyone I've ever known You make the best use of everything that comes your way whether for you and Rick or for you and your neighbors. It reminds me of my life when I was growing up. Sometimes I now stop and realize that I've become too self centered. Too much within myself. But then I think I have to be more self centered because there's nobody else around to help me survive. Maybe in this instance it isn't a bad thing.

The snow has stopped for a minute and I can see Sam's house again. For a little while I thought it might have disappeared into the great white beyond. But it's not the end of the snow the sky tells me. More to come. Sunshine is resting with her head on Big Bear's legs. Resting with her eyes wide open and watching the gray sky. She knows it isn't over yet too.

Can't wait for Palmer's visit, can't wait to see what Brique decides. I'll bet Brique will break into a happy dance.

Mary, Daisy is so aloof she mostly ignores Big Bear. She's also demanding and if she wants Sunshine to groom her she'll go over and knock Big Bear away. She's always the same, very predictable. Sometimes I use hand signals with Sunshine like my palm facing her brings Sunshine to a stop. It brings Daisy to a stop as well, I've noticed. Little things but Daisy follows through with them. It would be easy to ignore Daisy with all the excitement SS creates, but it really isn't that easy. Daisy is full of 5 pounds of self confidence and she uses all of those 5 pounds with grace. SS doesn't even know what 'grace' means. She is a joyous clunkety dog even when she is quiet and still as a mouse.

I think I need to get up and do something.

We woke up late this morning (or at least I did) because of temperature. -3° at 9 a, & just minus 1 an hour later. Sunny outside 7 John just went out to refill the bird feeder. We don't leave it empty when it is this cold. Bright sun. Later in the week it is predicted to be near 50. strange weather. since it is too cold to go for paper (don't need it that much) I let the new Adobe reader be installed. I rarely use it & & it kept bothering me about the 'updated' version when I was doing something else.
I grew up in Wisconsin (left age 23 which was a long time ago) but never heard of cheese curds. May not have been marked in the 1950s.
