reuseable heat pads: http://hotsnapz.com/ I have some and they are quite interesting, although I think a different brand. There is a chemical reaction as the liquid changes into a solid that gives off heat, which can be reset by boiling the pouch. It is an interesting bit of thermal chemistry which I can try to explain if anyone is interested. Or maybe Charlie could do a better job.
There are also electric gloves, mittens and even socks, I think, run off of batteries. I have never had a problem with getting cold, though, as long as I am moving around. Small and with a relatively high metabolism keeps me warm more than many other people. The guy on your roof is probably used to it, so he was fine I would imagine. I have worked and played outside so much, I just dress appropriately and off I go. I often end up shedding layers and giving them to whomever is around me to keep them warmer.
TV - I have not watched in over 20 years. Time is now wasted on the computer, instead!
I found out why I don't do latch hook and similar hobbies - not much opportunity for creativity. You follow a pattern and essentially reproduce what was already created with lots of repetition. Fun for some, but I think Skye and I will finish this one and not do more. My Mom knits, does cross-stitch and similar, and I really appreciate the time and personal touch; my walls are decorated with lots of her cross-stitch pictures. But Skye and I seem to enjoy a bit more of a creative and original outlet.
I am signed up for a pottery class starting next week, and looking forward to it. It was my requested Christmas present, along with a nut butter maker. I got a food processor from my parents for the nut butter, as well, which I will use today. Very easy to make nut butters and Skye and I flavor them with cinnamon, chocolate, molasses or other items as we think of it. I also mix in some nutritional enhancements such as ground flax.
On the job search news, just received 2 more 'sorries', for a college in Washington state that does not give grades. I applied for both a limnologist and marine scientist, and did not even get an interview. Very frustrating. If anyone hears of anything that may work for me, let me know. Just about any environmental or ecological oriented position could work. I am thinking the job market is still so competitive that all jobs must be loaded with applicants.
Keep warm everyone.
Look and listen for the welfare of the whole people and have always in view not only the present but also the coming generations, even those whose faces are yet beneath the surface of the ground -- the unborn of the future Nation. The Constitution of the Iroquois Nations.
