I was disappointed for Serena too, Lucy. And I find your ancestry so interesting. My grandfather started the research on ours years and years ago, before there were collective records easily found, but he did some great compilations based on census records and things like that. Later my mother and my uncle picked up where he left off using his records as a base to start on. My brother and I seem to be the only ones left in our generation who have interest in them and we continue to share info with each other. We are lacking about 4 long ago generations but based on travel and war and other historic records they've unveiled, we can tentatively reach back to William the Conqueror. I say tentatively because of that big void just prior to Medieval times. And since the Native Americans kept no written records, we also get a little bit lost on the maternal side in the early 1700s. Anyway, there were always storytellers in our family so those written accounts are sometimes truly funny, but the original handwriting is truly beautiful, even though the writer couldn't spell worth a nickel. Charlie, I love the pictures and if I were ever to go to that Zoo, I would want you with me to tell me about so many things. I didn't realize that about the Madagascar lemurs, never even thought of it. Odd that alone a single species of animal would seek company within itself, and then eventually no longer have that trait when other species are present. How does that happen? Somehow I only know 'people cultures', not so much 'animal cultures'. |
