Hm.......I REALLY wanted to see this movie and finally had a chance to watch it tonight. Before I tell you how I felt about the movie, here is what it is about:
Quoting: It's Complicated(2009) R

Ten years after their divorce, Jane (Meryl Streep) and Jake (Alec Baldwin) Adler unite for their son's college graduation and unexpectedly end up sleeping together. But Jake is married, and Jane is embarking on a new romance with her architect, Adam (Steve Martin). Now, she has to sort out her life -- just when she thought she had it all figured out. Nancy Meyers writes and directs this Golden Globe-nominated comedy.

Mostly I liked it but there were a few points that I didn't like. The first one is more on a personal note really, not the quality of the movie itself. Jane and Jake were divorced for 10 years and I have been divorced 11 or 12 years. The premise of the movie is so far from my life that it was hard to grasp. Most movies are far from my life but I think because this one had that element that was so close, it just threw the whole thing off. Does that make sense?

The second point I didn't like was somewhere around midway in the movie. There is a scene where Jane and Adam smoke a joint (or part of one) and I just felt like it romanticized something that I personally do NOT feel should be put in that limelight and that put a bad feeling in my gut.

IF you could take out those two elements, or if you yourself are not bothered by them, it is a very good movie and there is a lot of humor in it. So 1 1/2 thumbs up from me.

I'd recommend it. I thought it was very funny. The pot-smoking scene was hysterical to me because it was about two people who are NOT regular pot smokers and what happens to them when they do. I've never smoked a joint in my life but I could just imagine what an idiot I'd be if I did.

My emotions went back and forth as the movie progressed. Part of me (the romantic part) wanted a reunion between Jane and Jake. And part of me (the realistic part) wanted her to move on to Adam, the solid, tender, loving, grounded guy. I liked how the movie turned out.
