Let me start with a very funny weird one; its a Weevil (fam.Curculionidae), very small, not more than 3-4 mm. That night I had been taking pictures of a moth sitting above my head on the roof of the terrace, I had noticed something that looked like just a small piece of debris stuck to the roof, to my surprise when I enlarged the pic. of the moth on my camera I saw that little piece of stone debris had legs!! Big Grin Hilarious! Of course I had to try to make better pics, not easy as I had to stand on a chair trying to keep my balance..

Comments here please

Another little Snout Beetle, I found it in the bathroom of Theresa's house in Rio de Janeiro where I was offered most kindly a stay for a couple of days before my return.
It was not a safe place for it, being so tiny (3mm) it could easily being overlooked and trampled! So took it to my room to make its portrait!
I've let it walk on my pants spread over the bed, I thought the colour would suit well its suit.

Isn't it cute? Lovey dubby after the photo session I released it on a climbing plant on the other side of the street where it went happily its way..

The first time I found this absolutely gorgeous big green Beetle ( I think belonging to the fam. Scarabaeidae), laying helpless on its back on the kitchen window seal, Poor thing. I helped it back on its feet and grabbed my camera to take some pictures, but the beetle didn't wait and took of, Blinking

I got a second chance though and here it is Smiling
17th Febr. 2010 Curasco-Paraty. Its size was about 2 cm..

That exciting day (1st Febr.) when I went for a tour on my own, exploring a small enchanting island in the middle of the river and I had a thrill finding my first Cicada, on the same tree trunk my eye got caught by a gorgeous metallic blue-green coloured Click Beetle.
Wow it was impressive not the least for its big size, for sure well over 4cm! As if that wasn't enough excitement for the day a huge walking stick (8cm) landed on my fore arm, unfortunately instinctively I shook my arm and the stick flew of high up in the tree, but my joy couldn't be spoiled for that day as I got plenty of opportunity to have a photo session with the large beetle! I took many many pictures, but only a few came out reasonably well, In the sunlight the camera had difficulty with its glittering shininess...

Chalcolepidius zonatus. My thanks to Techuser (Joao Burini)for the ID!

Now it's the turn of the Longhorn Beetles to enter the scene.

This one I met on a sunny afternoon in a magic Fairy place on a big rock in the middle of a wild river. When observing the beetle for a while I found out that it wanted to get off the rock, but couldn't as the water was all around, on some sides even violently splashing.
I observed it for quite a long time following it at a respectful distance, the rock was very big so I could even comfortably sit or lay on, taking pics of course! Big Grin
And so the Beetle ran along the rock trying out all sides, while I was wondering why it simply didn't fly?? Maybe it had a sore wing crossed my mind.. At last I decided I would give it a lift as it became clear it couldn't help itself.
I had to wade through the water but managed to take it safely to the side where I put it on a branch and I imagine I heard it sigh from relief Rolling my eyes.
I'll give a close-up at the end I left these pictures uncropped because I like the whole scenery..

The following three Longhorns look closely related, they have excellent camouflage patterns that would make them nearly invisible on the bark of a tree. All had the same size too, like appr. 15mm
The first two I found at night attracted by the light..
A grayish one on the 13th Febr. sitting on an outside wall;

Very different looks this one, I discovered a few of these restless running back and forth on a fallen giant Bamboo stem, I say giant because the stems had a diameter of 15 cm and more..
Finally managed to get a couple of pictures when one pauzed finally for a short while; size about 1,5 cm.
