Amongst the animals I met during my stay in Brazil were frogs, monkeys, crabs, lizards, geckos of course and a few snakes. My biggest frustration was the lack of a tele lens to capture the rich bird population, they were always too far off or hidden high up the huge trees amongst the lush and dense foliage, but I did enjoy their ever present company and enchanting songs anyway.

comments here please

The one that really stole my heart was a tiny baby tree frog.. It was getting dark and I was on my way home when I found it folded up sleeping in a young banana leaf. It was so tiny, less than 1cm! and it is surprising I discovered it so well disguised! It woke up slowly, first with half-closed sleepy eyes..then took a few sleepy steps and went to the side of the leaf peering in the dark over the edge, like pondering what’s outside there.. Lovey dubby

Its was amazing how they could cling onto the slippery wet and smooth bolder sides, sometimes even in a totally vertical position, even with water running over them!

This one was so well camouflaged and immobile on the colourful pebbles in a shallow part of the river bed, I would not have seen it if I hadn't to watch where to step.. Rolling my eyes.

Some look more like toads and maybe they are, but frogs can also have wrats and some species also shorter legs, so it is confusing.. Rolling my eyes.

Geckos are very cute and charming though they are predators of insects! They are welcomed guests in peoples houses for obvious reasons.
All of the photos were taken in Paula's and Geraldo's house during my stay there, they came out from their hiding places when the dusk sat in in the evenings hunting for moths, flies, spiders and other small insects.
Once in a while the gecko and I had the same interest in a moth, but we had different motives Hilarious! so many a time I have rescued a moth robbing the poor gecko from its meal, but I'm sure it wouldn't starve as there was always bountiful of food around! Rolling my eyes.

I'm not sure what this one was after, it doesn't look like an insect to me..

Hemidactylus mabouia Introduced from Africa, my thanks to Techuser for the info and ID!
