Caterpillars

I was so lucky to have met this stunningly beautiful caterpillar! Actually I found it by accident as when I was heading towards the river and had to watch out my steps I saw it amidst the leaf litter on the ground, I think it was ready to pupate.
It wasn't an ideal place for photographing, so I lifted it with a thin branch higher up in a better light.
After the photo session I put it back where I found it.
The size was about 7 to 8 cm, so quite big!

This was a very unpleasant meeting my friend had with these small prickly caterpillars.
To climb down a steep slope to the river a tree stem offered support, but auwww.. what a painful experience! A large group of small caterpillars was so well camouflaged on the trunk she hadn't noticed! She got an ugly rash and pain that lasted for many hours on her fore arm!

It came attracted by the light at night! I was trilled as it was fairly big and pretty in its green suit. To my surprise it wasn't even shy and a cooperative model, of course I took advantage of that! Big Grin Amazing were its various expressions it seemed to have and I couldn't help thinking it was as much intrigued with me as I was with it! Hilarious!
Looks like Stagmatoptera

I don't dare to put a size on it but it was the biggest of all.
Knowing my interest for bugs, a sympathetic young couple involved with rain forest protection projects, brought it to me, they had found it dead.

One night while we had invited Paula and Geraldo for a meal, all of a sudden, what I thought was a big moth, flew in through the open doors landing in Paula's hair, I took a few quick shots in poor light, before it freed itself and flew to the wall.
What appeared to be a big moth turned out to be a cicada! And what a cicada, never seen any like that before!
I still managed to take a shot from it on the wall when it flew off again and hid itself between the roof tiles, a pity I haven't seen it again..

Cochroaches - Blattidae

In Brazil they call them Barratas which means 'cheep' Hilarious! It shows they are not particularly appreciated.
True a few species can be nuisance but the vast majority of the many species are completely harmless to men.

1.
I thought it was a chic Cockroach but it is actually a beetle! Rolling my eyes.
Lampyridae - Aspidosoma sp. (thanks to JRsbugs for the corr. and id!)

Let me start with a very charming one, a beauty too with such sweet eyes! Lovey dubby

But they can be funny, one morning I found these too who had been on the booze at the left over in a wine glass left by me on the balcony the previous night, they didn't manage to get out so had to help them! Hilarious!

A definite nuisance one and the most abundant, you really had to take care that all food is securely sealed off, we even found a whole nest of them in a suitcase with old papers! They eat nearly anything and because of their flat bodies than can get into the smallest gaps.
