Truth should be everpresent.
I have moved 3 of the RSL pullets into one of the layer pens. I moved their smaller coop into the middle of the pen so the others can get used to them without being able to actually get to them. I hope in a few days to be able to let them out of the coop and not have too much drama to deal with. These pullets were supposed to be Golden Comets but it is now obvious they were mislabled. They are for sale as I do not want any RSLs. They are just coming to laying age so $5 each is a steal IMHO.

I have about a dozen or so first year layers to sell also. The eggs are not selling and I can't feed all these chickens. Worse comes to worse I will eat them.

Sure seems like those young layers should sell quickly. I know what you mean about those eggs... I had a dozen hens once... OMG! Had to go out & meet people so I could unload/sell the eggs. Hilarious!

I would like to keep just a dozen hens. May get rid of my roos and try to find an EE or a BCM. I have an EE that was hatched from a light blue egg but I am not convinced his daddy was an EE.

Maybe you could just borrow a rooster? Sort of like borrowing a buck, keep a couple of replacement clutches & then send the noisemaker home. Big Grin

I turned the 3 pullets out yesterday and there were no squabbles at all. I put the other 3 pullets into the small coop and I'll do the same with them. I feed the hens right next to the small coop and toss feed into the small coop for the pullets. That way all their heads are together while eating. I think I have stumbled onto something here.

I had to figure out something. The established pen girls were eating up the newcomers and I was so tired of having to keep chickens in the house and doctor them. I think Porkpal made the initial suggestion and I tweeked it to make it work for me. I hope these 3 do as well. Then I'll have to start eating a few.

Can't afford to feed them all so I have to downsize. I have advertised them but no takers so far so I'll have to eat them instead. They will taste good.

I know $5 is a steal. I'd rather eat them than give them away. I could sell them all at the stock market but the rip would cost me more in gas than I'd make from the sale.

Chicken and dumplings! Yummmm!

And did you know that you can freeze eggs? Beat them, add a bit of salt and freeze in small bags, labeled with the number of eggs so you'll be able to grab the right bag(s) when you need to bake something. Remember to reduce the amount of salt in the recipe.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
