I am sorry. I just realized this post had been made. I certainly am no expert on the subject but I will answer as intelligently as possible. When our country was young a person could earn a parcel of property by homesteading which meant they were to build a home of sorts and live on the land for a certain number of years making certain improvements to the property. If they accomplished this task they were given the deed to their property. It became known as a homestead. The people not only lived on the land but made most of their living from the land. They were as selfsustaining as possible and they were the rule rather than the exception. There is a movement of people wanting to get back to that simpler lifestyle. I think it is important today if for nothing more than the fact so many people have no idea where their food comes from or how to grow their own food. |
