This year I started 2 aethiopica in pots before planting in ground. One I direct planted the tuber in ground. All in the last week of May. The direct planted went into +-3 to 4 hrs. of sun and finally started putting up leaves 2 weeks ago, it's about 12" tall. One pot started went into direct sun, +-8hrs., has lost more leaves and generally lagged behind the other pot started one which is in +-3 to 4 hrs. sun and is 3'+ high. They all get relatively frequent watering in good soil.

None have bloom stalks yet and I'm wondering if the season is a bloom bust or if there's still hope.

P.S. Sue, the spotted leaf aethiopica are putting out huge robust leaves w/heavy substance and EEar-like, stout petioles. Thanks!

I think the Aethiopicas bloom more in cool weather, fall through spring. Mine haven't done anything this summer, either.
And you answered your own question, the ones in pots need more shade, it seems!!
