Hello everyone,

I quite often get split flowers as shown in the photograph. I was wondering if there is a known cause or way of preventing this?

Hi Mary,
I've read where odd flowers are a result of growth hormones the breeder (or distributor) puts on the bulbs. Maybe if you rinse the bulbs before planting? Just a guess....

Sorry I missed your post, wasn't notified that there were any postings, hmmm....

I have had this plant for two years, so it would no longer have any extra hormones on it, I would hope. It has split both years. Thanks anyway.

OK, that is strange. I have absolutely no idea what would make it do that. Do you know the variety name? Do you have others of the same variety that don't do that? Is it planted in the ground or in a pot- maybe it has something to do with the amount of water....

I've seen this on my plants, but never thought anything about it.

It is in the ground. It may get dryish where it is. Maybe I should move it.

It sure is pretty, though, even split. Wish I could help!
