Thanks Neal. The UMass extension sets 5/23 as 10% probability of 36F and this is when I usually plant tender bulbs. As It usually takes a few weeks for shoots to show and I generally have a few inches of mulch I wasn't sure about how 12-18" leaves would fair.

On a side note I planted some caster bean seeds yesterday. The package says to plant "after average last frost". This is expanded on inside the package as follows:
"The last day of frost (32 degrees or less) is defined as "the first day in spring on which there is less than a 50% chance a frost will occur" ..."
By this standard I could have planted these seeds on 4/19 or later. Live and learn.
