Sue, it's a lot more than an hour for you I'd say... it's outside of Portsmouth... it's an hour and a half for me.... George and I had talked about it last year, but I haven't heard from him in so long, I'd forgotten about it. Welcome Debbie. |

Hi Debbie, and welcome. I clicked on the link and it goes to facebook, but, I see no silkie pic's to click on, all I see is profile, friends etc and nothing works for me. I sure wish we had some chicken swap meets around here, it seems like all the shows and meets are down south or out your way or Iowa. Bummer. Hay Haystack |

I've heard there is a Bantam rooster that does not crow, is that true, and, if so, which one?? I do not want one, but I have a friend that does. I will Google it too. Thx!! Positive attitudes are sincerely appreciated. Beta Cubits.org Owner: AB³ = Body Mind Spirit & American Idol |

I've never heard of a crowless rooster, but I can imagine that it would be very popular! Porkpal |

Hens go broody on their schedule, with no way for us to control? Right? My two bantam Cochins are laying an egg a day, each, the nest keeps filling up. Per what we did when I was a child, I hard boiled one of each hen's eggs, and put them back a decoys. One egg is a little brownish and smaller, thought they'd appreciate their own egg being there. I don't know if I want chicks! The man said they were in with a pencilled roo for a while, so the Blue doesn't have a chance to have blue babes, does she? They're still in their temporary playpen on my deck(we know how that goes!) and I bring them in every night for their safety. They're in the cage that I brought them home in. Last night I looked, and the pencilled was sitting there with her head drooped, dangling down as if she was dead! I figure asleep, but I still went over to check on her. She woke right up. That sure looked funny, her neck all stretched out like that. I should have taken a photo. Hay, that sure looks like a spunky little roo! Melissa |

I don't know where to ask this, so I'll just do it here. I had this Big Decision to get a kitty litter box and fill it with dry clay-type soil, very dusty, for the two hens. Ah, dust bath! About an inch of soil from behind the house, clean stuff with small gravel in it. Chickkies immediately started eating it! They were just full steam ahead gobbling dirt and tiny rocks. Then one found a 1/4 inch square bit of broken pottery and started pecking at that. I took it away. gobble gobble. I took the pan out of their reach after about ten minutes. I'll give it back to them in an hour. What should I think? I doubt they've ever had scratch. I have some fresh sand that's supposed to be for pool filters, looks sparkly like quartz sand, would that hurt them? It's very fine, but not quite fine enough to go through window screen size mesh. goofy birds. Melissa |

That's funny. Glad the poor little fox was knocked out first, I was feeling sorry for it, what a way to go! Thanks for the link! Melissa |

Just make sure it's not the clumping type of cat litter- I hear that can harm pets if they eat it. |
