A recent exchange in a thread over in Sharon's Blue Gardens cubit made me think it would be a good idea to start a forum on some of the activities that we remember from years ago. Many of them, such as hula hoops and hide and seek, are still popular, although maybe not as much today. So go ahead and tell us about what you remember, and what games your kids or grandkids may be doing today that gets them outside.

Here are some thoughts from Elena, copied from a different thread:
I used to love tops when I was a kid. I was probably the only girl around who loved them. I still think they are cool. I was a marble nut too. I never would play marbles with boys though because I didn't want to risk losing them. My grandkids have those bands and can tell me where each one came from. I don't understand the craze either but the kids love them. One of these days they will go the way of pet rocks and other crazes we didn't understand like dressed up trolls and on and on. At least the bands are cheap and easy on the purse so parents and grandparents should be proud of that fact. Speaking of crazes, yo yos, hula hoops and jacks were around for a long time too. Guess they will come back strong eventually also. Seen anyone using a loop of string to make creations like crow's foot and cup and saucer and on both hands lately? Then there are shadow pictures on the wall. I see those in fancy styles online in videos these days. We used to love doing that by casting shadows on the wall.

And here are some more comments from Elena:
I have often wondered what ever happened to my wonderful marbles collection. I had some beautiful and very unique ones. I remember a shooter that was a very deep almost burgundy red color. When you hear someone say of me, "She has lost all of her marbles." they won't be just whistling "Dixie." They probably will be referring to something other than my collection however.

Family Fun - Wireless & Unplugged

I created this cubit to share ways of motivating families, especially children, to get outside, and activities to do once everyone is outside. Being outdoors is a wonderfully fun and healthy activity. Let's share indoor unplugged activities, as well.
