Being the ever enthusiastic outdoors person I am, even rainy days don't stop me and my son from getting outside - splashing in puddles and riding bikes through puddles is always fun. But sometimes you may not be able to get out, for whatever reason, so it is also good to have a selection of interactive, hands-on indoor activities to do.
Some examples are long time favorites, such as painting, drawing, board games, and sculpting with clay or dough. Cooking is another good activity, but only if the age is right, parents are there to help, or both. My son has been helping me cook since he was 3, I think it was, and has lots of fun with it. And I am not against 'new' activities based on new equipment or materials that may not have been available 50 years ago.
We have fun setting up involved Thomas the Train track layouts and other current models. We also have a laminator purchased at a bargain store, and use it to make bookmarks, placemats and tags from dried flowers, found feathers or insect wings, and other items. There are also some air dry and oven bakeable clays to have fun with, but I have not used those yet.
Share your experiences, and I am sure a good list of activities can be had that don't involve sitting on a sofa pushing buttons and wiggling joysticks.
Look and listen for the welfare of the whole people and have always in view not only the present but also the coming generations, even those whose faces are yet beneath the surface of the ground -- the unborn of the future Nation. The Constitution of the Iroquois Nations.

Family Fun - Wireless & Unplugged

I created this cubit to share ways of motivating families, especially children, to get outside, and activities to do once everyone is outside. Being outdoors is a wonderfully fun and healthy activity. Let's share indoor unplugged activities, as well.
