I was a florist for many years and I took this trick with me after decorating many trees:
Start on the inside and work your way out!

Many people place their ornaments all around the outside of the tree but when you hang ornaments starting by the trunk and work your way out, it is amazing what even a small tree looks like!

I use plain ornaments to fill in the space inside....and work out to my very favorites!

lol Once you ever get your butt over here you'll see. I like simple patterns, colors, motifs, not busy, not cluttered. Probably because i grew up in a house that was very messy and cluttered...it's a relief to have mine not be. See..I didn't grow up a crafter, that all came later :)

YAYAYAY a Christmas decorator~! Welcome Becky (Mattsmom)....happy to have you here! We love photos.

When all my kids were at home I had trees everywhere too.

We even used to hang garland around all the doors to their bedrooms and I hung the ornaments I collected for them over the years on it. Now they all have theirs at their own homes.

Becky, I was just looking at your third tree...it's my favorite I think! I love trees that are filled with ornaments.

My daughter brought home a puppy that just turned 1 and he is a chewer and jumper. I use an artificial tree since its so warm in Phoenix they become fire hazards quickly. Anyway, I had to use only the top two portions and put it on a high breakfast table so he couldn't get to it. I didn't decorate the way I usually do...using only older plastic ornaments just in case. SO GLAD I did that. He jumped up, ate one ornament and began on a string of garland. He can jump over baby gates! He is leaving in January when my daughter moves out so I'll be able to decorate "my way" again.

Someone told me to place tin foil around the tree 9that looks lovely Rolling on the floor laughing ) but it does deter him a little bit.

My glass ornament tree is the one I did not put up this year. With an 11 month old grandaughter ( that is here daily) I thought it might be too much temptation for her.

My tree in 2007 was pretty but I did not have time this year to go crazy since my daughter's wedding was December 28. I had 22 people for Christmas dinner that year...a pot luck style.

I admit that DH didn't do the best job of stringing up the lights but I didn't feel like doing it over, not when he had already tried twice to get it right.
