OK, I have a new iMac, and am learning my way around the beast, after stumbling around on laptops since 1999. I've had absolutely no training, just bumbling around punching buttons to see what happens. Not the easiest way to learn. Melissa

I have used Macs at work and home for - oh? - at least 10 years. I may be able to be of help to folks, so I will watch this thread.

coconut, I recommend getting a Macs For Dummies book. They are excellent, and an easy read. When Apple upgrades software significantly, I buy a Dummies book and I am an experienced user....

Macs are very intuitive. So much easier, for me, than a PC.

I also have an iPhone, and a .me account (Apple's $99 a year account that gives you Apple email, a web page, photo gallery, blog, and online storage.) I have had it long enough that I still have the suffix .mac on my email instead of the newer .me I love having the .me account. When I am out, I can make an appointment on my iPhone, and within minutes, it syncs to my home computer. Also all my bookmarks are synced, notes, etc. So, if I am using my phone for surfing the web, all my bookmarks from my regular Mac are there in the Safari for iPhone.

A few months back, I got an Apple TimeMachine for backup. It's also a wireless router, or Airport. Still learning about that aspect.

Goodness, Jules!

I am retired. I do one thing a day. Or maybe one thing a week. I am much too busy with my plants and diving and blog! Oh, and I'm supposed to be painting for six to ten hours a day, also.

Wowee, You are a great ad for Mr. Jobs.

OK, I sure wish daylilies didn't need cooling/dormancy, I was just starting to pollinate and grow my own from seed, back up in Virginia. The coolest it gets here is 68, and we are all running around in coats and hats and gloves! lol.

I do want to begin learning CSS. Cubits is all drab writing to me, gray with a little bit of wild and crazy blue borders. Rolling my eyes. Not that I want a crazy patchwork.

Cheers! and see you here again, after I come back from a morning dive.

I have never worked with HTML before a couple days ago, and have not done CSS, but I am enjoying learning about it.

I envy your morning dive!

You know, you can get evergreens and the should do fine down there, as well as bloom almost non-stop. Anything hybridized by Dan Hansen, David Kirchhoff, Frank Smith, Bob Carr - the "Florida" hybridizers that say they are "E" instead of SE (semi evergreen) or D (dormant) in the description should do well. There are also many hybridizers in California, and Mike Longo in Hawaii.

be happy to help when you have a mac question!

Some parts of Florida, and even Hawaii get right chilly in the winter. But, hey, I'll go look. Thanks for the info. I had no idea that daylillies have become so varied.

OK

All right, an iPhoto question. How to size a photo?

I tried to fill in the blanks with 150 X 1500, and something happened, but then in the bar, in extended photo info, it says the image is 3389 pixels tall. Oof.

iPhoto, how do I move photos from event to another 'event' so as to have things together, all chickens, all cats, all coleus?

Maybe iPhoto could be a new thread.

It probably would be good to give iPhoto it's own thread.

I don't know a lot about iPhoto. It is on my to do list to learn about. My neighbor just got a new macbook and she wants me to teach her about iPhoto. LOL Guess I better learn! For the most part, I have only used it for transferring photos from my iPhone to the Mac or from Mac to iPhone.

I did look up this up for you. I clicked on HELP up in the menu bar within iPhoto... I clicked on "index" which is right under the search area. Then, I clicked on A-F. Scrolled down to "Events" and clicked on it... and under Events is a heading "Moving photos from one Event to another"... when I click on it, this is what it says:
________________________________________
Moving photos from one Event to another
To move a photo from one Event to another:

Select Events in the Source list.

Command-click to select two or more Events.

Double-click one of the chosen Events to open them.

If you have set your preferences to use the Event double-click to magnify photos, move your mouse to the bottom of the Event’s key photo and click the “Show photos” button when it appears.

Drag the photos you want to move into the Event you want to add them to.

To select multiple photos that are not next to one another, hold the Command key down as you click.

The moved photos will appear at the end of the Event.
*************************
You can also use cut and paste to move one or more photos from one Event to another.

To do so, select one or more photos you want to move and then choose Edit > Cut (or press Command X). Then select the Event you want to move the photos to, and choose Edit > Paste (or press Command V). The photos are removed from one Event and appear in the other.

Thanks again, now my sorting work can begin!

It's all in having the knack of how to find what you need.

In my last job, I had to do a lot of complicated Photoshop work. Sometimes I could not figure out how to do something. I often went to Google and just typed in what I was trying to do... and up would pop sites with possible answers. It is something to try when your trying to do something and can't figure it out. Just type it into google and see what you get.

iPhoto is a photo management program that comes as part of the "iLife" suite. Many new macs come with it when you buy the Mac.

Only reason I don't use it is because I generally use something called "Bridge" which comes with Photoshop.

I see, so it is pretty much MAC specific and could be a thread in the MAC forum. Good to know. Thanks :)

My iMac is new, and came fully loaded with programs. It's so much easier and pleasanter than Bill's computers.
