Can someone PLEASE fix whatever is causing the loooong delay when I type a reply? It's driving me crazy. I'll type whole sentences before the first letter shows up. I'm not seeing it here but it's awful over in Stormy's cubits.

Yup . . . big fast is good. My DH once bought me a T-shirt that says, "My Hard Drive is bigger than Yours". Our desk top computers are 5 years old and starting to slow. I am a power freak . . the next purchase will be even faster to keep up with my obsessive mult-tasking.

Hart told me that she has an exceptionally fast connection. The problem went away as soon as I made a new thread. Good point about the larger processor. I haven't had any typing delays, but I was having those periods where the posting box was greyed out. This was the day before yesterday. I was getting it on both computers. This was at exactly the same time as Hart first told me she was having the slow typing experience. Strange that Ella was getting it too on the same day.

Might have just been a coincidence. Also good to restart your computer once in a while. It's kinda like giving it a mental health moment. Defrag and check for errors is also good. Run virus programs. All that general computer maintenance stuff.

You don't have to turn it off. . . just choose the restart option. If you do turn it off completely, wait about 5 minutes before turning it back on.

I shut them down completely and lock them when I leave the house. I also unplug the bricks.

Perpetually happy!
I get that typing delay when something else is running in the background...98% of the time it's Avast! updating. As soon as it's done everything behaves again.

It's not my computer. The dual processors certainly aren't small. There are no viruses. All the maintenance such as defragging, cleaning out caches, etc. is done automatically at least a couple of times a week.

It certainly shouldn't be Firefox vs IE because everyone who does web design knows one of the first things you do is check your pages' compatability with all the major browsers.

well, I had the problem until I switched to firefox. haven't had the problem since. mamajack was having the same thing and I had her switch and you see she said above that it fixed it.

I don't know, but it fixed it for me.

If something here is working in Firefox and not working in IE, then someone isn't doing what they need to do to make sure pages are compatible with all browsers. I doubt if that is happening. I certainly hope it isn't.

so hart you think it has more to do with long threads?

Well, it fixed it immediately.

No. I mean that may be a quick fix but I'm sure there's some other problem somewhere. Stormy said it started after a switch to a new server. Maybe the problem is there or something got snarled up in the switch.

I think Stormy is running a Mac, aren't you Stormy? So it shouldn't be anything to do with browsers or even OS. Besides, like I said above, anyone creating a website knows to make sure their site is compatible with anything around.

Hart, I run both Mac and PC. But my intention is to use the MAC for my non work endeavors. It's what I'm now using for Cubits. When there is a problem, I switch over to the PC to see if the problem is my hardware.

This is my first Mac experience, and I have to tell you all that all of my other computers feel like dinosaurs after using this MACbook Pro. My Sony PC is less than 6 months old.

I have no problem with keeping the threads short. Big Grin But my point is that probably shouldn't be causing problems with any computer not on dial up or old and wheezing.

so.........we don't know what is causing it? exactly. is that what you said hart?

the computer i am using is a compag presario with windows xp media edition 2005.

the computer that i had no problems with was an xp vista. when i started using this media edition i couldn't open attachments on emails until susan sent me a link for "open office" i think it was. and on cubits i would type whole paragraphs without the words showing up until i was done.
