If I am understanding this correctly.

I would set up a store front in my cubit. In the storefront I can display my wares and input product descriptions, prices and shipping/handling information.

The entries in my storefront would then link into the big picture where they could check out and the payment would be actually made.

A small percentage of the payment would be sent to Cubit.org for the use of the system and the remainder would be placed into my account.

or

The payments would be made directly through my store front and I would then pay Cubits.org a percentage of the actual sales amount minus shipping and handling charges on a per sale or monthly basis.

Stormy- We definitely want excellent searching! We feel great about how well the search works on Cubits, and expect nothing less than stellar for the storefront.

Zany- you've got it. Probably the second option...as I hate being the middle man. Once you're account reaches a certain dollar amount due to Cubits, then we'd send an invoice.

I would like my Lilies and Irises Cubit to be included, but we don't have any sales at present. our sales are going to be seaonal. Plus we've only done one sale. But it was a good one.

So, I'm very interested, but not sure we would be included due to the seasonality of our sales?

And how will this work if just a Cubit member, not an owner wants to have a sale.

Quoting:Each seller will have to set up their own "store"- which is housed within their own cubit. There will be a central browsing place to see all the items for sale.

This would mean they would need to set up their own cubit. It could be just a storefront without any of the rest of the features of a cubit.

Trish, What other ways would people have of browsing the stores? Would there be some kind of store directory? What about the person who doesn't have a search item in mind, just wants to window shop?

Polly, you'd make a great addition, especially as you are a more experienced seller. You're input is and will be appreciated.

So, start thinking about your wants and needs!

Stormy, those are details that we'll need to work out. That's why we want as much input as possilble in the coming weeks. We've just got the basic outline right now.

Polly and I are co owners of the iris co op and once the kinks are worked out this seems like a good thing, but as she pointed out we are very seasonal.

What percent is the Cubits looking at now...that would also help to know well in advance.

I can see that I could sell longer than Polly only because I have different varieties of iris IE, Japanese, Siberian (both have) bearded and I also have Spuria as well.

Please keep us updated.

Now what if I have alot of hand made things such as jewelry, wall hanging, sewing items, I would set up a different cubit for those items. But if they are mostly iris related items couldn't they be listed on our cubit?

Food for thought for sure.

Hey Trish image you are getting very uncomfortable now?

Dee, I'm thinking that the benefit of what Trish is envisioning is that the sale items in the commercial Cubits "store" area will be linked to a central separate search function, that will search all participating cubits. I'm assuming that non participating cubit direct sales would be excluded from the new search engine. The "commercial store" would introduce the cubit owner to a much wider market, hence the revenue sharing. Well established business such as your Snow Peak Iris may not need the larger exposure. However, your craft business might.

This is what Dave said originally about the percentage of the sales. I don't know if this has changed or not but it should give you an idea of wht to expect.

Quoting:I am planning for some-time down the line an eCommerce module where you will be able to operate an entire store, complete with a cart and checkout system, here at cubits. When that happens, I will take a modest sum like 5% for my efforts.

I am very interesting in selling my plumeria plants and cuttings. Whatever format works will be fine with me. I think when Trish said 'when you have something for sale, the store will show as 'open', otherwise it is invisible', means that with seasonal items (which will include most plants since shipping in freezing conditions is out) this would be easy enough. I'll start thinking of more features I would like to see added.
Thank you, Trish and Dave!

When you walk into a Mall, there's a store directory there. I think the stores are listed alphabetically, within each category. Something like that on the homepage would be a good idea.

Then a click on the "store's name" could take you directly to the store. Or a click on the "category" could take you to a separate page where each store in that category could be listed with more details about it and examples of what is for sale. From there you would have links to the stores themselves.

I will not be a participant. I'm envisioning this from a shopper's perspective.

Hetty's got the idea for the seasonal items. It's absolutely not a problem.

For the percentage, we've been looking around at the other options out there. Etsy charges 3.5% plus a listing fee. We were thinking 3.5% with no listing fee, so you can take your items off and put them on with no fees.

Nap- that's the general idea. The details are a bit fuzzy, but we'll all work together to figure out the best way to work showcase.

I'm interested too. Ebay's last increase has really hurt the small businesses.

JT, that's kind of what I was asking, I guess. I have people in my Iris Cubit that plan on selling out of the cubit next year. We had not planned on taking any compensation for it, just letting them sell there, and that way we could kinda control what quality of sellers we get, as we know the people.

I'm not against Dave and Trish getting a percentage, this will be good for all, but instead of each of my members that want to sell setting up their own cubit, I wonder if we couldn't work it someway like we had planned origionally. Various people selling out of the iris cubit and Cubits getting a percentage? I know some people would prefer this, as they would not want to set up their own cubits. Some would prefer to do their own, of course.

I'm for either way. i have members who would like to sell their crafts but don't necessarily want the work of a cubit.

However, if there were some sort of a streamlined mini version with limited features and complexity of a cubit, they might go for it. A"store front" type of cubit. Perhaps pre formatted with a nice selection of themes to choose from. I personally wouldn't want to get involved with collecting money for multiple sellers.
