I'm sure you have all noticed that Dave made a change in the code that currently allows images to be embedded in the posts- hence all of the new smilies everywhere.
Oddly, people have also begun to host their photos off-site at places like photobucket and the like, and embed the image here on Cubits, rather than upload directly to the site.
Here's why this is a bad idea- photos hosted at a photo hosting place get deleted. So, when (not if) that photo is deleted, you have a bunch of posts in your cubit commenting on a photo that no longer exists. This makes your user experience both frustrating and unprofessional for the traffic that will come in the future by searching.
That's why we have always hosted our own pictures rather than relying on outside hosting services.
It is our recommendation that you encourage your users to upload their photos right here rather than embed the image.

There may be new members who have come over from sites where one has to load them first to Photobucket, etc. and are used to doing that. It's a bother.....love our photo system.....
That's right Stormy. Some have already notice photos missing. And of course all those really funny emoticons are gone also.
I would rather have a secure site and know that things won't go missing, so I agree with the decision to disable this feature.
They can add a link to their photobucket images but they cannot embed the image into the thread. To see the images here they must be loaded in through the picture uploads feature.
Breathe Lynn, the videos are safe and will not vanish unless they are removed from youtube. Those used in articles usually are made by the person linking to them in their article and would not want to remove them anyway
Yes, youtube allows the person that uploads the video to decide if it can be embedded or not. If you are embedding videos that do not belong to you there is always the possibility it will become unavailable later.

That's why I've just been making links to them, but even so youtube themselves might remove the video. So now we try to always name what the video is before we link it, that way if the url changes, a person can still go search for it. I've actually been trying to encourage the members to do that with all links, even for text items.
