Things are really hopping and things sometimes get lost in the shuffle, so I want to address a couple of items here plus ask that if your question hasn't been answered, please repost it as a new thread.

A few questions that have come up:

1) can I be just a moderator of the forum(s) of my interest and leave my cubit where it is? Absolutely!

2) Are you trying to get as many moderators as possible? No. We are asking our Cubit owners if they would like to move their cubit over and/or be a moderator of the forum that interests them. We are asking you because you have all done a wonderful job and we trust you to keep doing the job that you are doing.

3) do we plan to hire other people to help us manage the new site? No. We were even specifically asked if any current or former employees of IB would be admins or moderators. No.

Again, you were asked because we trust you and we like the job that you are doing.

4) Why can't other people see this forum? Only cubit owners who checked off "gardening" as one of their categories have access to this forum. As owners of your cubits, it will be up to you to tell your cubit members what is going on. There will soon be an official announcement to the Cubits.org membership at large once everything is in place.

I also want to emphasize that you are all free to contact us privately if there is anything you wish to discuss!

Have a great day!

How much do we tell our members? I know not to name the website, as it's not ready. Do we tell them we're heading over there and they can follow when it's up and running? Do you have a "prepared statement!" I can see a lot of misinformation floating around by the end of today......

In the case of those who will be moving their cubits over to the new site, we want the members of the various cubits to learn about the news from the owners of that cubit.

So, what to say? As much as you wish. Feel free to talk about the new site and how you will be a part of it. Tell them the plans for it, and what your role will be. Early next week I will make the full transition of everyone who wants to be moved over, and then we will launch it. I'd like to do the launch on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Feel free to share that date.

If there's any other specific that you'd like to share and aren't sure you should, just let us know. :)

I don't want this next note to come across as rude, and it's not, so please don't take it that way.

If you have already been assigned a moderator position, please don't ask or offer someone else to be a moderator with you, or tell someone that they can do it with you before asking Dave or me.

We have offered these positions to the Cubit owners first because we trust and respect the job that you have done with your cubit. We are not offering just anyone moderator access :) It is Dave and I who have to work with the moderators and ask someone to step down if there were a problem, so we will be picking people carefully.

So, feel free to suggest someone to us, but please let us pick who we would like to work with.

Thanks!

Today's memo:

We encourage members to ask Dave or myself questions directly. Smiling

I've had several instances of "so-and-so said that you said blahblahblah"

It's just easier to get your answers straight from us rather than relying on second (third/fourth) hand information, or relying on what you think we might or might not do. Smiling

This also applies if you are having some sort of technical problems.

And that concludes today's memo.

I tip my hat to you.

Trish and/or Dave,

If a cubit now has one cubit owner, but team of 3 or 4 "helper" moderators, is it possible for the team to move over as team moderators, with your approval, as one? Or does each moved cubit have to have only one moderator?

Trish, my iPad has issues with typing your name. It auto-corrects to either Trisha or trash. So if one slips by me and I address you as "trash" please know that it's not me! It's not intentional!

Karen- I have the same problem on my Touch, so I won't hold it against you.

There can indeed be more than one moderator per forum. I'm not aware of there being an actual limit to the number, but keeping the number smaller is a good thing, IMHO.

Mail me and we can discuss!

Karen... if you type Trish and the little bubble comes up on your iPad with Trisha in it, just touch the bubble with your finger. It should leave Trish without correcting. If you do that a couple times, it will "learn" the word Trish and stop correcting it with the wrong word.

Trish, if you are talking about an iPod Touch, the same trick should work for you... I think that works with all Apple touch screen products.

I hope you are all aware of a site called 'Damn you Autocorrect!' - it has some hilarious examples of the way that autocorrect can mess up your life... Hilarious!

Hello ( Redrose ) PARADISELOVER. I remember seeing you around DG. There are a lot of members here that were on DG. Some still hang out here in different cubits but even more are over on Dave's new Garden site http://allthingsplants.com/

Are there any special friends screen names from DG you are looking for?

I have no idea where to ask this question. Knowing my past history, I am no doubt on the wrong forum but I am tired of looking for a place. I left here to move to ATP along with many others. I closed my cubits and moved. I am back because I like the concept and enjoy the people but I find that many of the forums I had been watching have not been active for two years. I am wondering, is there a way we can tell that a cubits has moved or closed other than going to each one and looking to see when they posted last time? If we post on an old forum, how do we know anyone will see it and reply?
I may be missing something here and if I am I apologize but it is so time consuming to keep going to these forums and then find there has been no activity since 2010.
I would appreciate any help regarding this question, also if I am on the wrong forum please direct me to the proper place.

It would be up to the cubit owner or moderator, I think, to post a notice (a noticeable notice!) to that effect, as on the top of the seed cubit
http://cubits.org/Germination/
or the ORV cubit
http://cubits.org/G_ORV/

I doubt Dave or Trish are still watching this old thread so just let me say that I am wondering about that also. If there is no response from them here it would be best to start a new thread in the owners cubit where they are more likely to see it.

It could be hurting cubits when a search brings someone to a dormant site here. I doubt they would be likely to check through the other cubits or know how to find active ones.

I know some stayed open in order to maintain their stores or independent databases but their forums are still open and inactive.

I remember something about cubits being closed or deleted if they are inactive for a certain length of time. But if they have a database or published articles they are left...That means...I guess ...we are not going to see cubits get a house cleaning of them and will have to continue stumbling through dust bunny sites here to discover which ones are still alive.

Most of the cubits that moved over to ATP did put a notice on their front page.

For those that didn't but seem to have been abandoned, I have been hesitant to do anything about it. I do think at some point I should go through with a critical eye and do some serious housecleaning around here, though.
