This site is not secure? Why are we not given the same level of security as Garden.org?

I am also puzzled by the loss of the link from here to Garden.org. Several members of my cubit have asked these questions and I have no answers for them.

A SSL certificate cost $300 and I only bought one for Garden.org.

Cubits is something we have maintained for many many years with almost no return of investment. I can't spend $300 for a SSL certificate to remove that annoying Chrome message about security, and I don't see it as a big problem anyway. It basically means you're not getting an encrypted connection to the server. I may one day find a way to handle that without paying for an SSL certificate.

I've wondered if we should start to phase out cubits. It's hasn't grown in many years. It's nice that a few people use it, but is it worth keeping it online for a few people? There are expenses here and there to managing a site like this and I have to ask myself if it's worth keeping around.

Thank you for your response. While I would be sorry to see Cubits shut down, I do understand that it may be necessary as a part of your personal business plans. I do hope that, should you decide to close up shop here, that you will give us advance notice.

I don't think your regular users would object to paying a small fee for the privilege, Dave. Would it convince you to keep us around if we helped pay for your costs?

Actually, Ive been thinking about the consequences of closing Cubits.

Like Brenda said, please give us plenty of advanced notice before you do something like that so that those of us who have important data on this site can figure out a way to save it.

For example, Sharon offered me a spot on her Blue Gardens cubit to journal my trips to Thailand. I definitely don't want to lose that, but I don't know how to save it to my computer. I'd have to think about what to do.

I have a lot of information on my cubit that I can not loose.
So I kindly ask that if the site shuts down, there would be some option for me to retain that information and make it available on another site.
I would be willing to pay a fee to keep it.

I definitely would be willing to pay a fee. I use the store feature as my only website for selling my semps. http://cubits.org/TheSempervivumPatch/store/

I'm with the rest, if you do phase out Cubits I hope we get plenty of notice as I will have to build a new website and would sure hate to lose all the information currently in my store here.

I was just thinking .... We have over 4000 jigsaw puzzles in our Database. What a shame if they were to go away.

Just wanted to say that I would never even consider just taking Cubits down without giving a very long window of time for everyone to prepare for that. So don't worry one bit that you'll wake up one day and cubits will be gone.

If we ever do phase out this site, you'll know long in advance. Currently Cubits doesn't cost me much to operate so I'm happy to leave it running. I have a hard enough time keeping up with my main projects though so I can't do much development to the site.

I do think I can find a way to bring SSL security to Cubits, like we have at Garden.org, though.

Dave, Thank you for your reassurance.

I fully understand your time constraints for development here and am delighted with the success of the NGA site. NGA has become the best garden site available, but it, quite properly, has no place for the type of forums we maintain here.
