Dave or Trish,

Would it be possible to have the emoticons above the reply box instead of at the bottom?

Also, On my homepage after I read the items in my thread watcher the new section under cubits you joined does not turn to N?

Thanks in advance,

Molly,

We used to have the emoticons on the right of the box, but they were moved. I liked them better before, but no one else has said anything, so I kept my opinion to myself ;) They were moved there to keep from annoying those who don't wish to see them at all.

As for the "yes" issue: see this thread for more info:

Thanks Trish. It is annoying for me to have to scroll to the bottom to put in a smilie and than back up to continue typing. Smiling See? LOL

Is it possible to have a box in the right side box, or where ever, to have the
option of putting the smilies there or not have them there?

Trish, I know that they were moved to the bottom so that those who are not fans for various reasons could avoid viewing them when they are posting.

If they have smiles turned off do they still see them? If so then I agree they need to remain low out of courtesy to those people.

If they can't see them then I'd love to see them at the top of the box

I'll talk to Dave about it.

Meanwhile, I've trained myself to scroll far enough down so I can see both the smilies and the box at the same time.

Even with my small CRT screen (not flat screen) I can have both the reply box and smilies visible at the same time (as Trish notes). I do use emoticons at times, but I also find them distracting if the whole line up is in front of my face. Now if you can honestly say that you weren't distracted by the emoticons below in this post below, then you are a far more focused man/woman than I.

On serious discussion pages having smiles on the side looks to be in poor taste. I like smilies, I us e them, so I don't want them turned off, but just prefer not to see them on the side of a page when the threa dis suppose d ot be of a serious and professional nature.

Well, I agree with the counter points to this debate so I will just have to get used to scrolling farther down. Smiling

I have to admit that now that I have gotten used to scrolling down to find them...I kinda like them where they are.

Trish,
Can an adjustment be made to have the smiley inserted whereever your curser is placed? I type first, edit, then go back to insert my smilies. No matter where I place my curser, though, they all come in on the very bottom line and I have to cut and paste them in place.

Thanks!

Linda

Linda, that's how it works now. I'm not sure why it is not working that way for you. Confused

Make sure you click on the space where you want the smiley, not just hold your mouse over that area.

Mine does the same as Linda's no matter where I click, once I insert the smiley it goes to the bottom of the post and then I have to cut and paste it where I want it Sad

If you put smiley in place as you go like here Whistling you can then continue to type but if you go back to here later and try to add it it will appear here Confused

this happens even when you click there so the curser is visible.

Same happens to me, and another member I know of. At times it will go to the line or two lines below even if I try to put it in a sentence as I type, I just use the back arrow to bring it back into place.

I can't put one in where I want to afterwards further up from where I have finished typing, often we want to do it after we have typed other words, then the smilie is an after thought. It always goes to the bottom.
