Older then Ted and I? Big Grin

Actually, I had help but have a diagnosed disk problem along with some undiagnosed ones...Still.. I figure I can hire help if I must and once they are up and growing I can handle them fine. Just start early enough not to have to rush against a freeze up ... Actually, getting them in the ground is harder for me then digging them up. I've heard the opinion that those of us that start plants are working way too hard....but I like the work, and it allows me to sell my plants in a "Value Added" way. My customers know for sure that the tuber is viable since it is already growing with healthy leaves when they buy it.

Thanks for sharing the blurb about color, Critter. Very interesting... Was a big Illiad and Oddessy fan long ago, but color was NOT something I thought about!

I think its about time for me to pick up Homer again, as my eldest just finished Percy Jackson & The Lightening Thief, with no real understanding what the back stories are.

Anyone see "Beyond Bewitched," the purple solid sport of HH Bewitched? Any show potential in that one? Think it will last?

I like the name, giving a nod to the hybridizer.

We enjoy breeding new dahlias!
Old House Dahlias used to sell black red sport of Bewitched that had "knight " in it's name. I do not see it on their list now. Dan's Dahlias was growing a purple(maroon purple) sport of Hollyhill Black Widow.

In the mostly-purple area some of you might like Verrone's Sarah Sherman, which was a new one this year:

picture from Verrone's website, pretty accurate as to color

She's a tall girl, might be a good companion for Edith Jones!

GH LAMMERSE? That is one I don't know but I like your picture. Where did this one come from? Does it fade? How prolific is it? What size flower?

Dahlias! Dahlias! Dahlias!
GH Lammerse is one of my Dutch imports. It is a four inch waterlily (think Kari Blue, but hot lavender), prolific bloomer. Doesn't fade.

Dahlias! Dahlias! Dahlias!
Piedmont Rebel is an old Southern heirloom variety. A little later (late mid season) to bloom, but makes a good amount of flowers. Size B LC DR.

Ad Lib is an A size cactus variagate. PR/R. Late season bloomer.

Ad Lib was originated by a dentist or doctor(I am not sure which) that was a member of the Portland Dahlia Society before I joined. Never met him but many people over the years have liked Ad Lib for it's deep purple color as many flowers are solid rather than variegated. Wayne Shantz was trying to use it to produce a purple seedling but I do not believe he had any success..

The new intro Skipley Ida Bella seems quite vigorous so far and is setting multiple buds right now , expecting blooms soon .

I wanted Ida Bella but could not decide on other stuff to put an order togeather from Clearview , Connie ordered it for my Birthday in Feb along with Clearview Debby .
Clearview offers some beautiful introductions but lacks any real description in their catalog .
Our Hollyhill Karen Lee plants look good also but I do not believe they are setting blooms quite yet .
