What varieties make such AMAZING quantities of great-keeping tubers that you will NEVER run out of extras? These are the varieties you hand out at church, sneak into trade boxes and leave on stranger's doorsteps in a frantic attempt to re-home the masses that you dug up from even a single clump. These are the varieties that you could store ANYWHERE above freezing, and they laugh at your attempts to 'accidentally' destroy them. Edison Challenged- (there has been a vote 'for' and 'against' this variety... Will someone come forward and break the tie?) Vista Minnie If there is a variety listed/suggested as an AMAZING tuber variety, but you disagree, be sure to challenge it. There has to be a majority of votes FOR a variety to take it off the 'Challenged' Amazing Tuber list and placed in the 'Amazing' list. This list will be updated continuously, based on the comments below. CC |

I've had poor results from two Vista Minnie plants, with no good tubers. I was under the impression, from talking with others, that this one should be on the POOR tuber list. Can anyone else vote on where this variety belongs? CC |

Mine made a bunch of perfect chicken egg sized tubers, but it wasn't a robust grower for me. Maybe I'm too mean to my dahlias, and they make hardy tubers out of desperation. ![]() |

Kenora Macop B is a prolific one for me. |

Colorado Classic is a world class tuber maker keeper. Mingus Toni also. An older variety in the PNW is Puget Sparkle that is prolific as any dahlia in the tuber department. Lots of poms are superb tuber makers and Kasagi is the record holder in poms. Frank Holmes and Glenplace make lots of tubers and there is a long list of of good tuber making poms. Easier to list the bad tuber makers like the very best pom for both show and cut flowers, Mi Wong that is the worst tuber maker and keeper. Lismore Moonlight is a bit tricky for tubers as is Yellow Baby. But they would be average over in the regular dahlia department. Rhonda and Valda are terrible tuber keepers. We like to place a sign on our porch that says: We are in the garden. Really, we are always in the garden. |

AC Ben Kenora Macop B Mingus Mikie B Mingus Toni Have been poor tuber makers for me I am trying some of them again this year, then no more! |

Amy K makes a bazillion very small tubers. Chimacum Julia does too. There is a category for varieties that make small tubers that keep well. We like to place a sign on our porch that says: We are in the garden. Really, we are always in the garden. |

Snow Dance is the most, productiv for me. It is a Dutch cultivar, ( Geerlings, 2005), not sure whether it made it over the ocean. The tall waterlily has big, well storing tubers, it grew a huge clump which I could divide with almost all tubers intact, listed as 4 feet tall, but rather 5'+ for me Closely followed by Glory of Heemstede, a pale yellow WL from 1947, Dutch as well |

These were my most prolific tuber makers this year - not sure that every single one of these eyed up and grew - but certainly most of them did. Gaylen Rose - 19 Maisey Mooney - 12 French Doll- 10 Red Hat - 10 Hot Shot - 8 |

That's funny, Mingus Mikie B made a lot of tubers for me. I still have a few extra. Same with Kenora Macop B. Might be climate related. Mingus Toni has been reliable, but the plant seems not all that vigorous for me and gets powdery mildew with a vengeance. |
|
|||
Wait, wait! Not just reliable, but AMAZING. Nothing is a sure bet...experiences will vary, but most grower's experience of varieties on this list should be vigourous head-nodding. Wonder if I could whip out the cool voting tool for these lists, after we run out of varieties we would add... I'll look into it. CC |

Oh, yeah... Red Hat was one I hoisted off on many of my unsuspecting traders one year. I'm A Hottie is definately a wowzer tuber maker, too... I have so many Mingus Mikie B's, with more still popping up in my dud pile... CC |

Brookside Snowball seems to be popping up like rabbits this year. I even had one push through a very thick stand of roto tiller radish and bloom! Very sturdy tubers. "What is a weed?" asked Peppa Pig. "A weed is a cheeky plant growing in the wrong place!" replied Grandpa Pig. |

Hollyhill Monet makes very vigourous tubers. I was not at all surprised to find a missed one popping up. I didn't mention it before because it seems to make huge rather than excessively numerous tubers. |

Vista Minnie made new tubers but the plants are all coming up virused. I think I am going to have to toss it and I loved the flowers. Salish Dahlias |
