Buttermilk will probably not be sold as we only grew a very few plants. We have heard lots of positive comments from the cut flower people who grew it. Hard to believe that people would want a yellow flower but since it is such a light yellow that makes it OK. Margaret wants me to grow more of it next year so she can use it in arrangements. Too many flowers, not enough time! |

I have one or two HH Buttermilk in the field. It grew in-between two monster plants. I had all my new stock grouped together. I was putting up an impressive fight to be on top. Does anyone else grow newly acquired stock separately? After seeing dozens of new leafy gall photos show up on FB daily, I know it's because they are buying from those international distributors. My pool of suppliers I will buy from keeps getting smaller and smaller. I invested heavily into nutrition management and virus testing this year in an effort to get my field operating above the bar. |

Cosey, I have not done testing but I have been very careful about what stock is allowed in my garden. So far, with all the tubers dug, I have seen no tuber gall and no leafy gall. Of course that could change as i divide more tubers but I hope it doesn't. And the soil I bought this year should not have had any of the viruses present in it, from either soil company I used. I no longer buy tubers imported through the big tuber supply companies that use Dutch tubers. Other then Swan Island, which is local, but of course has a huge national presence, I mostly order from people who are actively involved in the dahlia clubs and should be aware of these viruses. I don't think I have ordered anything not grown in Washington or Oregon so far this year. If I have trouble with one suppliers stock then I know where to go find them, ![]() Salish Dahlias |
