We enjoy breeding new dahlias!
Dahlia florets unfurl in a spiral pattern and most of the time we do not see it unless it is pointed out. Many years ago, when I was a beginner judge, I was on a judging team with a person who was a senior judge in the USA and a certified judge in the UK and that is harder to do. We were judging the poms and one of them had more of a visible spiral pattern as it was opening and I said this pom has a form defect. That was the first time I was told that all dahlias open in a swirl and it is not fault.

We like to place a sign on our porch that says: We are in the garden. Really, we are always in the garden.
